Hidden Gems: Meet Nancy Vu of Vince Jade Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Vu.

Nancy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I created Vince Jade Designs, LLC, it meant the world to me to continue my late father’s legacy. I come from a long line of entrepreneurs. My parents came to the United States  for the American dream and a better life for their family. As a first generation Vietnamese American, I knew it was in me to become an entrepreneur myself. I’m passionate about my company’s namesake for so many reasons. It really highlights my roots and culture, but most importantly, it pays homage to my late father- Vincent (Vince for short), and Jade is my Vietnamese name. It’s almost a short story about myself and the meaningful name reminds me about what’s important to me!

I’ve always had a love for creating beautiful decorations, starting with accessories for my friends and family to enjoy. I remember all through junior high and high school I would make hair bows and decked-out spirit sticks for my dance team. Bows were definitely my specialty! As I got older, the hair bows turned into extravagant Christmas bows! Before I knew it, my bows were on trees, wreaths, swags and so much more, the possibilities were endless when it came to what a bow could go on.

In 2014, I was sent a goddess from the decorating heavens when I met a sweet lady with decades of decorating expertise. She graciously took me under her wing and taught me the ins and outs of creating a luxurious Christmas experience. I owe Mary Beth so much for being a mentor and becoming a great friend.

In 2021 a lifelong dream came true when I landed an opportunity to create a spectacular Christmas for an iconic Houston restaurant empire. At that moment, I knew this opportunity was a true blessing, and I was not going to let them down.

It may seem ludicrous, but our Christmas season starts in late July! I would decorate in the evenings after my 9-5 office job and on the weekends to prepare for installations in October (yes, I said October!).  We also have a client now that books us every year for his Christmas installation before Halloween!

To keep our creative juices flowing during the year, Vince Jade Designs, LLC also decorates for all the seasons such as Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, Easter, Halloween, 4th of July, and even Astros season! We’ve recently tapped into balloon decorations and it’s been a hit!

It’s been years of doing small decorating jobs and Vince Jade Designs, LLC was a long time coming. We are now nearly fully booked every holiday season!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Vince Jade Designs, LLC is a luxury decorating company servicing Houston and the surrounding areas. We decorate for all holidays/seasons and specialize in Christmas decorations. We are known for our high quality, unique and extravagant decorations, especially Christmas trees. Our most popular tree is an Astros theme tree! It’s so much fun bringing our client’s vision to life.

While our expertise is in perfecting Christmas decorating and drawing up holiday designs to warm your home for the season, we are also able to decorate all year round for all kinds of events! Moreover, I feel that it’s also important to add that we love supporting local companies. It gives us a chance to give back and collaborate with the community around us. After all, hosting for gatherings or making your home feel more complete around the holidays is all about connection! We work hard to add that “spark” to our end product.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road for Vince Jade. Learning the business side of operating a company has been a challenge. It can take a bit of the fun away from decorating when you have to talk numbers with a client, but I just remind myself that my clients hired me and I am good at what I do! So I’m learning the importance of the financial and administrative side of the business and I know it’ll come more naturally as I gain experience.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for those who are just starting out is, it’s ok to start small and take time mastering your skills. You are never done learning, always continue to learn and grow. Never think you know it all, ask questions, lots of them! Sometimes the best lessons are learned from the biggest road bumps.
