Today we’d like to introduce you to Paris McGhee.
Hi Paris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Welcome to France had a very humble beginning. I would offer haircuts to my friends from school in the restroom at my mother’s house. As time went on, more of my friends would come for haircuts throughout the day, and so the idea of working in a better atmosphere become more real to me. After finding a shop home, business picked up pretty quickly from there. I begin working in a local barbershop shop when I was a junior in high school. I was the youngest barber there, and had very little experience, but fortunately I was surrounded by other barbers that contributed to my skillset and development as a barber. I stayed there for about four years, and later transitioned to what would be my second shop home. The second shop later become my first attempt at ownership which turned to be a major success in my journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is definitely far from being a smooth road. However, I think my experiences, perspective, and approach to business is what’s helped to make the journey thus far a lot less bumpy and easier to navigate. After business at my first shop home discontinued, I figured it would be extremely difficult to maintain business and my personal life without the help of those who I had grown so accustomed to depending on. I believe my desire for my business to be a success is what helped drive me through the late nights and early mornings. I would definitely describe the process of becoming a haircare professional and business owner as one that is challenging for sure. However, being independent and learning how to operate on my own is the very thing that has taught me most of what I’ve grown to know about the beauty business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I would like for the readers to know that Welcome to France Barber and Style is a company that is committed to providing exceptional service that redefine the way you experience grooming. After committing to over a decade of practicing barbering professionally, I decided to advance my career by attending and later graduating from Transitions Technical College, Inc. here in Montgomery, AL as a Licensed Cosmetologist. Through education and demonstration, my goal is to shift the stunting traditions associated with conventional practices in the beauty industry. My ultimate goal is to specialize in all thing’s beauty from hair to wholeness. I believe that everyone is innately unique. If we focus on the things we’re naturally drawn to, I believe success will come. I also believe that my love for people is what sets me apart. I want you all to know that the culture of Welcome to France is to lace the highest level of excellence into every person, every service, every time. The heart of my brand is to extend practical solutions to beauty hurdles from the common to unique cases.
I’m most proud of the reputation and credibility I’ve been able to establish throughout the community. This has afforded me opportunities to work with notable artist and individuals I would not have had the opportunity to work with had it not been for the gift that I’ve been blessed with. I want you all to know the days of conventional grooming that you’ve grown accustomed to isn’t the standard you have to accept. There’s more to barbering than just getting a haircut, and I’m here to redefine the way you see grooming!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Absolutely! The list of thanks is endless. I heard one of my mentors Kenny Duncan say that “we were created to exist in community”. I could not and would not be where I am today if it weren’t for the investors (my clients) who’ve partnered with me and made the decision to do business with me on a consistent basis. I’d like to thank the many barbers that I’ve worked with over the years. My cosmetology school instructors and the staff. My social media family and all of my family and friends. They have always been a huge support. I’m beyond thankful and grateful for everyone who’s ever made the decision to share any measure of encouragement or advice to help me. I don’t take it lightly or for granted and it’s greatly appreciated!
