Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Boudwin
Hi Paul, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, the life I’ve traveled has been anything except ordinary, definitely worthy of becoming Unlike Regular People. Graduating from Arizona State University in 1999, I loved to dance, play poker, and basketball. It was then when I moved to Houston, where my brother was the mascot of the Houston Rockets. I worked in the night life business managing bars and restaurants. Due to the constant late hours, sometimes mornings, I left that industry and played professional poker for 2 years. Still to date, this career path made me more income both years than any other profession. I played in games throughout Houston, Lake Charles, and Las Vegas. After two years of playing 10-12 hours a day and becoming burnt out, I read an article in a poker magazine that investment bankers on Wall Street were leaving their jobs/careers to pursue careers in poker. So, I chose the opposite.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
-I got my investment licensing (series 7, 6, 63, and 65 as well as my insurance license) and started my financial career at Bank of America in 2006. After a hiccup in our judicial system in 2011 in response to the mortgage crisis, I found myself fighting for my life and career over an unpaid Denny’s omelette that was dismissed 15 years prior. This lasted for approximately 3 years. I am now a registered independent advisor (RIA) for Wealth Standard Financial, helping small business owners and entrepreneurs plan their retirement.
-Throughout my career in corporate America, I found myself being heavily scrutinized and judged (a lot of times even being held back) for 2 reasons. Not aligning to certain values other have followed. Marriage and dress. I was often told, I wore a suit very well. However, on the nights and weekends, I liked to dress comfortably. I wore joggers and hoodies. While marriage hasn’t been in the cards for me yet, I could see and feel the impact it had from others in corporate America. Needless to say, I found myself the first one on business trips going to sleep in my hotel room, while the married folk would enjoy their solo nights out, something I can do anytime. Fascinating. I felt someone’s marital status should not negatively affect them just as their gender or sexual preference doesn’t.
We’ve been impressed with UNLIKE REGULAR PEOPLE/URPWear, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
“Doing the right thing” was a saying that almost every financial company I worked for endorsed. I used to make one little twist to it. “Do the right thing when nobody is watching, even if everyone else is doing the wrong thing” Mother Theresa identified the USA as the #1 country that links money to success. URP looks at success far past that. It’s the impact you have on the loved ones and extracting the best out of everyone as they do for you.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
-SO, that is why I started UNLIKE REGULAR PEOPLE in 2020. Where fitness meets fashion. We are constantly lied to the moment we are born. Where YOU make up your mind of what is right versus wrong. Use your unconscious brain and experiences on how you want to enjoy the ride of life. URP is not for everyone, it is only for unlike regular ones.
