Today we’d like to introduce you to Raegan Levias
Hi Raegan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I graduated from Texas State University in 2022 and found myself navigating the challenges of post-grad life. I moved back home, didn’t have a job yet, and had to adjust to this new phase. During this time, my social life was stagnant as I tended to be more reserved and introverted. I vividly remember a conversation with my closest friends about how your 20s can feel lonely, especially after the pandemic.
This conversation inspired me to create a club and community for women in their 20s (we’re now also open to women in their 30s) to connect and try new things around Houston. I started an Instagram page to promote our events, and from there, things started to gain momentum.
My best friend, Boyin Labiyi, who is currently studying for her DPT at UTMB, has been with me every step of the way and has played a huge role in growing and maintaining the club.
One of Amity’s first events was a happy hour at Sixty Vines in Rice Village on July 14th, 2023. Nearly 20 people showed up, and it was such a fulfilling experience. It helped us realize that there was a real need for this kind of community and that we could do something special. 2023 was definitely a learning year for us as we figured out what types of events people enjoyed and which areas of Houston worked best for hosting them.
2024 marked a breakout year for us. We hosted monthly events consistently and even had the opportunity to collaborate with local businesses and clubs.
Some of our most notable collaborations included a golf clinic with The Queens Tee Club, a holiday-themed cookie decorating class with Velma Perez of Cookiegram, R&B yoga with Tonaysia of Body Language Yoga, and Advanced Movie Screenings with Fons PR.
One of our first events of 2025 was “Reflect & Revive,” a yoga and journaling class with the amazing Raveen Alexis (a 200-hour registered yoga teacher and wellness writer). Through this class, we had the chance to recommit to ourselves and set our goals for the year ahead.
It’s been such a fun and rewarding journey creating these events and meeting new people. We’re excited for everything 2025 has in store! Creating a sense of community has been so important to me because it allows us to build connections, share experiences, and support each other.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, especially at the beginning. One of our biggest struggles was getting people engaged and building awareness that the club even existed. In the early stages, it took a lot of effort to get the word out and let people know about what we were offering. We had to be creative in how we reached out to potential members and ensure they understood the value of being a part of our community.
These struggles taught us a lot, though. We’ve since learned how to better communicate our purpose and align our offerings with what people are looking for. With every challenge, we’ve gotten stronger and more in tune with our community’s needs.
We’ve been impressed with Amity, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Amity is a social club for women in their 20s and 30s across Houston. Our goal is to create opportunities for women to try new things and meet new people in a fun, welcoming environment. We host monthly events that range from workout classes and happy hours to creative activities like candle-making and cookie decorating. This variety sets us apart from other social clubs and ensures there’s something for everyone. Our events can be found on our IG!
What I’m most proud of is our ability to truly connect women from all different corners of the city. It’s been amazing to see friendships form and women build a supportive community through our events.
I want readers to know that Amity is all about inclusivity. No matter your background or where you come from, we welcome all women who are looking to connect, grow, and have fun. Our space is meant to be a supportive, inclusive community where everyone feels welcome and valued.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Houston is its incredible diversity. The city is filled with people from all different backgrounds, and that makes for such a rich, vibrant community. There’s always something new to discover, whether it’s through food, culture, or events.
On the flip side, what I like least about the city is the walkability and traffic. While Houston offers so much, it can sometimes be difficult to get around without a car, and the traffic can be a bit overwhelming at times.
