Hi Ruthie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Ruth (Ruthie) & I am the Baking Butterfly. I have loved baking since childhood and I had no idea this gift would allow me to reach people all over the world. Baking is my safe place and each item I create is made with so much love you can taste it. I am grateful for the blessing & I pray it keeps making room for me in places I haven’t even dreamed of yet. Being an entrepreneur is huge for me and I hope to leave an amazing legacy to my daughters.
I have purchased numerous online tutorials, taken one hands-on fondant class & I frequent YouTube University, but overall I am self-taught – which amazes me. Growing up I wanted to work in the medical field so that I could help people. In 2016 I realized that I could give people love & even heal them a little by sharing my God-given gift. Each time I let fear discourage me and tried to throw in the “towel” GOD threw it right back at me by making it unbearable to work for businesses owned by others. When I do things His way He repeatedly works it out for me even when I worry. I have two very special angels in Heaven that show up as Butterflies daily to keep me encouraged, watch over me and remind me that I’m doing a wonderful job & they’re so proud.
I won’t lie and say it’s easy, because let’s be honest; life definitely be “life-ing”. It takes courage, strength and passion to keep showing up and doing my best. I pray that I keep growing & glowing, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a road paved in gold but every “failure” was a lesson I needed. The biggest challenge I’ve faced is having to learn so much on my own & the lack of knowledge about marketing and funding. I have also dealt with people in this industry who only see competition which causes them to be catty and even hateful. I learn from it and keep pushing. Also being the sole provider for two children on top of owning and operating a business is hectic to say the least. Giving up isn’t an option.

My business is home based and I strive to provide my clients with exactly what they want. It’s no secret that you can go into almost any grocery store and buy a cake & cupcakes for little to nothing and there are also other home based bakers all over Houston. What sets me apart is the fact that I can customize each order down to the most minute detail, all items are made to order and nothing it sitting on a shelf or in a freezer for months on end before it touches your lips.
Whether it’s a birthday party, wedding or even a corporate event I listen to what my clients wants and needs and use my skills to create just what they are looking for. I can do items with the company logo as an edible image and even create custom cakes and treats that showcase whatever the party theme is. I ensure quality and amazing flavors & I do this by offering personalized customer service & attention to detail. When you’re in charge of a party or event the last thing you want to do is to be forced to bake and take care of all of the other important tasks, that’s why I take the worry away by doing what I do best.

I define success as a consistent quest for knowledge, growth, and being able to take care of my loved ones with my passion.
