Hidden Gems: Meet Savannah Macal of The Chosen Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Macal.

Hi Savannah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Running a business takes a lot of faith, it is not for the faint of heart. As a child I grew up understanding the struggles and sacrifices it takes to run a business, thanks to my father. I remember going with him to markets to sell his signs, walking to different Walgreens to sell his USA flags after 911, the late nights, I remember the worried look on his face when he knew bills were coming up or when he knew job deadlines were getting closer. I saw the sacrifices, and I knew that it took a lot of faith to keep the business running.

Although I saw the hardships, I also saw the success and freedom that came with owning your own business. I have always loved to create things, to get my hands dirty whether I was wood working in workshop, painting in art club, working at the church, or digging holes for my dad, I was never afraid to do activities or jobs that others deemed messy, risky or scary. Which is why I say it takes a lot of faith to run a business.

I always had the desire to start my own business, but was too afraid and had a lot of opinions from those closest to me that would sway my decision. It wasn’t until recently that I thought, if The Lord can take care of all the men and women in the Bible, if He never left them, even in the scariest of times, through persecution, storms, even death, then why would He forsake me. Why am I so scared to step out in faith, and start my own business? It took a lot of restless nights, praying, business planning, counseling with my husband, and research on many embroidery machines, to make a decision. I came up with the name “The Chosen Co”, and my logo is the story of the Gospel. We are all chosen and called by name, and the unimaginable truth that God loved me so much that He gave His only son to die and save me, was something I wanted to share in my business. I give God all the glory for who I am, where I am in life and where my business is headed. I will admit it is hard, and sometimes I feel like throwing the towel in, especially when mom life and business life collide, but I know that I have a great support system behind me, and a heavenly Father who walks beside me and in front of me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth transition, I will admit I have had some days, and weeks, where I feel like quitting. A lot of the struggles I face are financial, trying to keep up with fluctuating economy, is challenging especially since pricing on materials such as clothing, and thread have gone up. However, I try my best to find the better deals, and always give my customers the quality they deserve. If I personally do not like the quality of my product I will not give it to the customer.

We’ve been impressed with The Chosen Co, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a wife and a mother of three beautiful children, and I run my own custom embroidery business. The name of my business is The Chosen Co, and I make creations that bring joy and happiness to customers. I do custom embroidery gifts for father’s day, mother’s day, grandparents, seniors, Christmas, as well as other small business apparel (caps, and shirts). I pride myself on the quality of work that I give my customers, if I do not like the way it looks I will not give it to you. I love to communicate with my customers to ensure that they receive the best care, and that their creations come out exactly as they want.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love watching videos on TikTok or Facebook of other small business or crafters making their own creations, whether it be crocheting a blanket, sublimation cups, etc.
