Hidden Gems: Meet Syd Stredit of Syd’s Sanguine Secrets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Syd Stredit.

Hi Syd, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Like many others, the pandemic put us in unknown spaces and took us completely out of our comfort zone. Spending more time at home got the creative juices flowing and ample time to do things that we were unable to do otherwise. I am a self-proclaimed foodie, fashionista, top hostess of the krewe’s house parties and a moonlight bartender. As a family, we enjoy great food and it brings us together no matter the occasion. Now that our favorite restaurants are closed, I had to recreate the dishes and cocktails we grew to love. My test group was my family and my boo. I began cooking for them and it became a regular thing for us to see what Syd was going to cook today. I posted a few pictures on my social media pages and it created a little buzz but nothing to cause an alarm. Billy (brother-in-law Rodney Thomas) told me that we need to do something with some of these dishes and as usual I just shrugged it off and continue to try to impress them week after week. Running low on ideas and chatting with my college roommate Kimmy (Kimuel Jones, of Dillard University at New Orleans, LA) we would brainstorm and come up with new dishes. Occasionally she would send seasoning that we could only get in Louisiana. After being pushed and encouraged by my Krewe, I took a chance and posted a flyer to sell hot plates and the first dish was New Orleans style BBQ shrimp. Not knowing what I was getting into, things took off. Upon graduating from weekly hot plates to full fledge Total Event Service Provider- Syd’s Sanguine Secrets, LLC. My mother told me if I am going to do this, do it right, so I am. My business provide services for event planning, bartending, catering and styling. All of which I have a passion for and seem to be navigating through the Black-owned business world just fine. In these short two years, I have acquired repeat customers and a support group. My goal is to have a sustainable business and continue to serve people and help in securing the best memories possible.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, things for me have been pretty smooth. Growing pains are to be expected to make the proper adjustments. I have learned a lot about myself and running a business. I try to give people the best experience possible. We have a small krewe that utilizes their strengths to maximize the outcome.
