Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylisha Clark.
Hi Taylisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I founded Cliterate in November 2020, drawing inspiration from a multitude of life experiences. As a divorced teenage mother, life unfolded quickly, and I strongly believe that proper sex education would have guided me to make better decisions. My curiosity, unfortunately, led me down unexpected paths, and I wanted to change that narrative.
While rediscovering my identity beyond motherhood and marriage, I realized a shared lack of self-awareness and sexual knowledge within my local communities. It struck me that despite engaging in sexual activities, there remained a significant taboo around sex education, especially when it came to pleasure. I yearned to create a safe space that offered education, resources, and empowerment, allowing individuals to embrace their true selves and reclaim their pleasure.
Cliterate began to gain momentum when I ventured into the pop-up world after COVID-19, relying on word-of-mouth marketing. However, I soon noticed that I didn’t quite fit into existing spaces. People would give side-eye glances, appear uncomfortable, and then discreetly return without their partners to engage in conversations or make purchases. This motivated me to curate our own events called The Naughty List Exchange, where we could establish our own inclusive space.
Using the power of social media, podcasts, and local networking, I set out to close the orgasm gap that weighs heavily on society. Through these channels, Cliterate strives to provide knowledge, promote open discussions, and empower individuals in their sexual journeys. The ultimate goal is to create a world where pleasure and sexual well-being are embraced without shame or stigma.
Alongside my best friend Courtney Myers, I co-founded Healing Girl Season—a safe and intimate community space dedicated to BIPOC women and individuals. Here, we embark on a transformative journey together, embracing vulnerability and honesty as badges of honor.
Within this space, we uplift and support one another through various activities and provide meaningful take-home gifts like intention journals and plant manifestation stations. Our aim is to create an environment where individuals can build each other up and experience healing.
I firmly believe that the true power of our sexual energy is influenced by a range of factors, including our mental, physical, emotional, and financial well-being. To truly embrace our sexual wellness, we must strive for wholeness in all these aspects, as they are interconnected. Healing Girl Season offers a space for releasing and healing, allowing individuals to nurture themselves. In parallel, Cliterate provides the necessary education and resources to tap into one’s authentic sexual energy and become the most fluid and empowered version of oneself. Together, these initiatives complement each other, fostering personal growth and embracing holistic sexual well-being.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely NOT! No road worth traveling is every easy… I would say a lot of the struggle came/comes from the industry that Cliterate falls under plus our name in general. We can have Dicks Sporting Goods, but Cliterate is red-flagged for any and everything. In the Pop-Up World as well people tend to shy away from things that make them uncomfortable. I would find it more difficult than some others to get people to feel comfortable with even walking up to my table. That is why creating my own avenue was mandatory; I didn’t fit in… so I created a space where we are the base.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Cliterate takes a holistic approach to sexual wellness, considering the bio-psycho-social-spiritual aspects of mental health. By addressing all these dimensions, Cliterate aims to empower individuals and help them build a strong foundation of sexual knowledge and understanding. Through proper sex education, we stimulate the mental aspect of sexual well-being while also offering a range of pleasure tools for physical enjoyment.
Cliterate’s focus is on creating a safe and inclusive space for people of all backgrounds. We recognize that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore their sexuality with security and knowledge. By providing tools and resources that enable individuals to understand their bodies, minds, and spirits, Cliterate promotes proper self-love and helps individuals radiate positive sexual energy.
One of Cliterate’s key goals is to close the orgasm gap between men and women. By empowering the clitoris, a highly sensitive and often overlooked organ, we aim to enhance women’s sexual experiences and bridge the gap in pleasure. By fostering knowledge, understanding, and empowerment, Cliterate encourages individuals to embrace their sexual selves and venture into the unknown with confidence.
