Hi Toynika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in phlebotomy began with a simple desire to make a difference in healthcare. What started as learning how to draw blood quickly became a passion for patient care, education, and professional excellence. As I gained experience in clinical settings, I realized that I didn’t just enjoy performing the skill—I loved teaching it and helping others build the confidence to succeed.
Over the years, I advanced from practicing phlebotomy to leading and training future healthcare professionals as a phlebotomy instructor and educator. Through mentoring students and developing educational programs, I discovered a greater purpose: making quality phlebotomy education accessible, engaging, and effective.
That passion inspired me to become an author, creating exam review books, study guides, and educational resources designed to help aspiring phlebotomists prepare for national certification and enter the workforce with confidence. Today, I continue to educate, mentor, and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals through Prestige Technique, combining real-world experience with practical learning tools that empower students to achieve their goals.
What began as a career in phlebotomy has grown into a mission to elevate the profession—one student, one classroom, and one resource at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If you had told me years ago that I’d become a phlebotomy instructor and author, I probably would have laughed—and then gone back to practicing my venipunctures. Starting out wasn’t glamorous. There were missed veins, sweaty palms, self-doubt, and plenty of moments where I questioned if I had chosen the right career. Let’s just say my confidence and my needle didn’t always arrive at the same time.
But every challenge taught me something. Every mistake made me better, every difficult patient made me more compassionate, and every long day reminded me why I started in the first place. I traded frustration for determination, and eventually, experience turned into expertise.
Today, I have the privilege of teaching future phlebotomists and writing books that help students avoid some of the same struggles I faced. Looking back, I’m grateful for every obstacle because they shaped not only the healthcare professional I became but also the educator I am today.
So yes, the journey had a few bumps—and maybe a few bruised egos—but it also proved that success doesn’t come from being perfect. It comes from refusing to give up, learning to laugh at yourself along the way, and remembering that every expert was once the beginner hoping they could get just one good stick.

First and foremost, my greatest motivation has always been my children—Ronald, Kyla, and Isaiah. They are the reason I keep going, especially during the moments when I felt like giving up. Every challenge, late night, and obstacle has been worth it because I’m not just building a business; I’m building a legacy for them. They remind me daily why perseverance matters and inspire me to keep chasing my dreams.
I’m also incredibly grateful for my sisters. They’ve listened to countless business ideas, encouraged me through moments of uncertainty, celebrated every win, and reminded me to keep believing in myself. Their unwavering support and willingness to let me “talk their heads off” about new ideas have meant more than they probably realize.
My partner has also been an essential part of this journey. From the very beginning, he has believed in my vision, even when it was still taking shape. His encouragement, patience, and endless support have given me the confidence to keep moving forward through every high and low. Having someone who genuinely believes in you can make all the difference, and I’m incredibly thankful for that.
Finally, I’m grateful to every student who has trusted me to be part of their journey. Watching them become certified, begin new careers, and achieve goals they once thought were out of reach reminds me why I started Prestige Technique in the first place. Their success continues to inspire me to grow, create, and serve at an even higher level.
