Hidden Gems: Meet Verneal Morin of Form Flow Pilates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Verneal Morin.

Hi Verneal, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in New Mexico, music and movement were simply a part of life. My grandfather was a country-western dance instructor at the University of New Mexico, and some of my favorite childhood memories are of family gatherings filled with live music, instruments, laughter, and dancing. Looking back, I realize those experiences planted a seed that would ultimately shape my life’s work.

When I moved to Houston during high school, I knew I wanted to continue pursuing dance. While attending the University of Houston’s Department of Theatre and Dance, I trained at several studios throughout the city to further my education. That journey eventually led me to Barbara King Dance Studio, where I was introduced to International Latin Ballroom. I immediately fell in love with both the artistry and the discipline of ballroom dance.

Barbara King saw something in me beyond my ability as a dancer. She believed I had a gift for teaching and invited me to begin instructing at just 20 years old. That opportunity changed the trajectory of my life. I had the privilege of training under Barbara King, Billy King, and Kevin King, while also learning from internationally respected professionals including Corky Ballas, Colin James, Louis van Amstel, and many other incredible coaches who came through the studio.
Those years opened doors I never imagined. I performed throughout Houston at venues including the Wortham Theater Center and Miller Outdoor Theatre, and in 2008 I had the honor of performing at the Latin Grammy Awards in Houston alongside Latin music artist Víctor Manuelle. Those experiences were unforgettable, but over time I realized that my greatest passion wasn’t performing—it was teaching. Watching someone gain confidence, discipline, and joy through movement became far more rewarding than standing on stage myself.

Along the way, I met my husband, Kevin King, and that became one of the greatest blessings of both my personal and professional life. Kevin is an accomplished ballroom dancer, entrepreneur, former studio owner, and represented the United States at the World Latin Championships in International Latin Ballroom. Beyond his accomplishments, he has been one of my greatest mentors. His guidance, encouragement, and belief in me have helped shape both my career and the leader I strive to be. I’m equally grateful for my daughter, who has been my biggest cheerleader through every chapter of this journey.

After Barbara King Dance Studio closed, I founded VDanse. During our early years, we operated out of Soundbox Studios, whose generosity and support played an important role in helping us grow. Along the way, I had the privilege of collaborating with so many talented people, including Whylan Rucker, Nicole Young, and especially Aaron Medina, whose creativity and award-winning choreography elevated our students and our program for many years.

Over the years, VDanse became much more than a dance studio. We trained recreational dancers, elite competitive dancers, and pre-professional performers who earned regional and national recognition. While I was incredibly proud of those accomplishments, the awards were never what mattered most to me. My philosophy was always simple: develop good humans first, and great dancers will follow.

Every child deserves to feel seen, encouraged, and valued. Dance teaches far more than technique—it teaches discipline, resilience, responsibility, confidence, teamwork, and respect. Whether a student dreamed of dancing professionally or simply wanted to experience the joy of movement, my goal was always to create an environment where they could thrive. Our dancers had opportunities to perform at Houston Rockets halftime shows, community events, showcases, and productions that brought families together and created lifelong memories.

Owning a dance studio was one of the greatest privileges of my life, but it was also one of the greatest responsibilities. When you truly care about children, you don’t just teach classes—you invest your heart. Their victories become your victories, their struggles become your struggles, and you carry that responsibility long after they leave the studio.

As the years passed, I also began to see the dance industry evolve. While there were many wonderful aspects of that evolution, I also witnessed increasing pressure, comparison, and competition that sometimes overshadowed what I believed mattered most: the children. I firmly believe that very few children will become professional dancers, but every child will remember how they were treated. They’ll remember whether someone believed in them, encouraged them, and helped them become confident young adults.

Around that same time, another passion in my life continued to grow—fitness and movement science. As a professional dancer, I had always incorporated strength training, yoga, and Pilates into my own routine. As our competitive dancers became more advanced, we introduced Pilates as cross-training to improve strength, mobility, flexibility, body awareness, and injury prevention.

What started as a way to support dancers quickly became something much greater.
While completing my Balanced Body Comprehensive Pilates Instructor Certification, I gained a completely new perspective on movement. I realized that Pilates wasn’t just transformative for dancers—it had the power to improve the lives of people of every age and every stage of life. It could help someone recover from injury, age with strength and confidence, reduce stress, improve posture, and reconnect with their body in a meaningful way.
For the first time, I felt complete clarity about the direction I wanted my life to take.

In 2023, alongside my husband, Kevin, and his brother, Billy King, we opened Form Flow Pilates in Sugar Land.
Today, Form Flow Pilates is home to two unique movement experiences. Our Reformer Lab focuses on intentional, high-quality Pilates instruction rooted in precision, alignment, strength, and body awareness. Our Infrared Oasis combines movement with the therapeutic benefits of full-spectrum infrared heat, offering thoughtfully designed classes that promote mobility, circulation, flexibility, recovery, stress reduction, and overall wellness in a calming, restorative environment.

One of the greatest blessings of Form Flow Pilates has been the people. We’ve been fortunate to build an exceptional team of instructors who genuinely care about every client who walks through our doors, along with an incredible community that has embraced our vision of creating a welcoming environment where people feel supported, challenged, and inspired to invest in their long-term health.

As Form Flow Pilates continued to grow, Kevin and I made the difficult—but peaceful—decision to close VDanse. It wasn’t because I stopped loving dance. Dance will always be part of who I am. Rather, it was recognizing that every season of life has a purpose, and I wanted to fully dedicate myself to the next chapter while ensuring our dance families had an outstanding place to continue their journey.

Today, I’m grateful to serve the dance community in an advisory and consulting role with The Dance Barre HTX, supporting owner Chantell Preston as she brings her vision to life for Houston’s dance community. I’m excited to contribute my experience while focusing my daily energy on leading our team, community, and culture at Form Flow Pilates as we prepare for our expansion into Fulshear in 2027.

Looking back, I realize my purpose has never changed. Whether I was teaching dance, leading a dance studio, or helping someone discover Pilates for the first time, my mission has always been the same: to help people become stronger, healthier, more confident, and more connected through movement.

If there’s one lesson my journey has taught me, it’s this: your purpose doesn’t always change—sometimes only the path does. Don’t be afraid to evolve. Trust your discernment, lead with integrity, and have the courage to make difficult decisions. Sometimes closing one chapter is exactly what allows the next chapter to become even more meaningful.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all—and honestly, I think that’s what makes the journey meaningful.
People often see the finished product: the studio, the accomplishments, or the milestones. What they don’t always see are the years of uncertainty, long hours, difficult decisions, financial risk, and personal sacrifice that happen behind the scenes. Entrepreneurship asks a lot of you. It stretches you in ways you never expect and constantly challenges you to grow—not just as a business owner, but as a person.

For me, one of the greatest challenges was balancing my passion for serving others with remembering to take care of myself and my family. When you own a children’s dance studio, it isn’t just a job. Those children become part of your life. Their victories become your victories, their disappointments become your disappointments, and you carry a tremendous sense of responsibility because parents are trusting you with something incredibly precious.
As much as I loved that responsibility, I also came to realize that I had spent years putting everyone else’s needs ahead of my own. Looking back, I don’t regret that because those relationships mean the world to me. But I also learned that you cannot pour endlessly from an empty cup. To continue leading well, you have to care for yourself, your family, and your own well-being, too.

Another challenge was watching parts of the dance industry evolve. I still believe dance is one of the greatest gifts a child can experience. It teaches discipline, resilience, confidence, creativity, teamwork, and respect. Unfortunately, I also witnessed moments where comparison, pressure, and adult competition overshadowed what should always remain the focus—the children.

One of my core beliefs has always been that very few children will grow up to become professional dancers, but every child will remember their experience. They’ll remember whether they felt encouraged, accepted, challenged with kindness, and surrounded by adults who genuinely cared about their growth. That belief has guided every decision I’ve made throughout my career.

Perhaps the most difficult decision of all was choosing to close VDanse. People sometimes assume those decisions happen suddenly, but they don’t. It came after years of reflection, prayer, conversations with my family, and honestly asking myself where I felt called to invest my heart and energy moving forward.

Walking away from something you’ve built over decades is incredibly emotional. VDanse wasn’t just a business—it was part of my identity. It represented thousands of students, countless families, lifelong friendships, and some of the most meaningful years of my life.

At the same time, I could clearly see the incredible impact that Form Flow Pilates was beginning to have on people’s lives. Through Pilates, I was helping teenagers, young adults, parents, athletes, and older adults move better, become stronger, recover from injuries, reduce stress, and regain confidence in their bodies. It felt like a natural evolution of the work I had always loved—helping people through movement.

Rather than viewing that transition as leaving something behind, I’ve come to see it as building upon everything that came before it. Every lesson I learned in dance—leadership, education, patience, discipline, community, and creating meaningful experiences—is something I carry into Form Flow Pilates every single day.
If there’s one lesson I’ve learned through all of it, it’s that growth rarely happens inside your comfort zone. Sometimes the hardest decisions become the most important ones. Trust your discernment. Don’t be afraid to evolve. Your purpose may remain the same even when your path changes.
For me, success is no longer defined by awards, titles, or accomplishments. It’s defined by whether I’ve made a positive difference in someone’s life, whether I’ve stayed true to my values, and whether I’ve built something that leaves people healthier, more confident, and better than when they first walked through the door.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Form Flow Pilates?
At Form Flow Pilates, our mission extends far beyond exercise. We believe movement has the power to transform not only the body, but also the mind, confidence, and overall quality of life.

Founded in Sugar Land in 2023, Form Flow Pilates was created to provide a boutique movement experience where every client—regardless of age, fitness level, or experience—feels welcomed, supported, and empowered. Whether someone is stepping onto a Reformer for the very first time, returning after an injury, or looking to elevate their athletic performance, our goal is to meet them exactly where they are and help them build strength safely and intentionally.

We specialize in Pilates with a strong foundation in movement quality, precision, alignment, mobility, flexibility, balance, and long-term wellness. Rather than chasing trends or simply creating a workout, we focus on helping people move better so they can live better.

One of the things that makes Form Flow Pilates unique is that we offer two complementary movement experiences under one roof.

Our Reformer Lab provides intentional Pilates Reformer classes designed to improve core strength, posture, coordination, flexibility, mobility, and body awareness through thoughtful programming and expert instruction.

Our Infrared Oasis offers an entirely different wellness experience. Beneath full-spectrum infrared heat panels, clients participate in carefully designed classes that combine strength training, mobility, Pilates-inspired movement, recovery, and restorative practices. The infrared environment creates a warm, calming space that supports flexibility, circulation, detoxification, muscle recovery, relaxation, and overall well-being, allowing clients to care for both their physical and mental health.

Perhaps what sets us apart most isn’t our equipment or programming—it’s our culture.

Over the past 24 years as an educator and entrepreneur, I’ve learned that people remember how you make them feel. That philosophy is woven into everything we do at Form Flow Pilates. We have intentionally built a team of instructors who lead with knowledge, professionalism, humility, and genuine care. Every class is designed to challenge our clients while ensuring they feel encouraged, respected, and supported throughout their journey.

I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built. Our clients aren’t simply members—they become part of a welcoming environment where friendships are formed, milestones are celebrated, and everyone is encouraged to progress at their own pace without comparison or intimidation.

Our brand has always been about intentionality. Every class format, every instructor, every detail of the studio experience has been thoughtfully created to reflect our belief that wellness isn’t about perfection—it’s about consistency, balance, and creating habits that support a healthy life.

As we prepare to expand into Fulshear in 2027, our vision remains exactly the same as it was on opening day: to raise the standard for movement education while creating a space where people feel stronger physically, healthier mentally, more connected to their bodies, and genuinely cared for.
If there’s one thing I hope people know about Form Flow Pilates, it’s this: we’re not simply teaching Pilates. We’re helping people build healthier, stronger, more confident lives through intentional movement, meaningful relationships, and a community that truly believes everyone belongs.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have never believed that success belongs to one person. Every meaningful chapter of my life has been shaped by people who showed up, stayed committed, told me the truth, and helped carry the vision when the work became difficult.

I am deeply grateful to Aaron Medina, who was one of my greatest supporters for so many years. He poured his heart and soul into our students and consistently gave far more than what could ever be measured by hours or a job description. His commitment, loyalty, and genuine love for the dancers and craft made a lasting impact on VDanse and on the young people he helped guide.

I also want to recognize Whylan Rucker, who stood beside me for many years and became an essential part of the studio’s foundation. VDanse would not have been what it was without her. Her consistency, dedication, and belief in what we were building helped sustain the studio through countless seasons of growth and change.
Nicole Young also played an incredibly important role in our journey. She invested so much time, energy, care, and emotion into the development of our students. She supported me through both the highest moments and the most difficult ones, and her influence reached far beyond teaching choreography, pilates, or technique. She helped nurture the confidence, character, and growth of so many children, and I will always be grateful for everything she gave.

As Form Flow Pilates has grown, I’ve also been incredibly blessed with an exceptional team. From those who believed in the vision from the very beginning to every instructor and team member who has joined us along the way, each person has helped shape the culture we’re so proud of today. Their professionalism, compassion, and genuine care for our clients are what make Form Flow such a special place. Together, they’ve created an environment where people feel welcomed, supported, challenged, and inspired every time they walk through our doors. Watching our team pour into our clients with the same passion and heart that inspired Form Flow from the very beginning has been one of the greatest blessings of this chapter, and I’m grateful every day to work alongside people who truly believe in changing lives through movement.

Most importantly, I have to thank my husband, Kevin, and my daughter. They have lived every chapter of this journey with me. They have spent endless hours listening to me talk through ideas, challenges, decisions, disappointments, and dreams. They have offered advice when I asked for it and honesty when I needed it—even when that meant telling me I was wrong, encouraging me to reconsider a decision, or reminding me to trust myself when I was moving in the right direction.

They have seen the parts of entrepreneurship that most people never see: the late nights, the emotional weight, the constant responsibility, and the sacrifices made behind the scenes. Their patience, wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love have carried me through more than I could ever fully express.

Above all, I give the greatest credit to God. My faith has sustained me through every season—the beautiful ones, the uncertain ones, and the ones that required me to let go of what was familiar and trust where I was being led next. I believe every opportunity, every relationship, every lesson, and every new beginning has been part of a purpose greater than my own.

I may have been the person leading the businesses, but I never built any of it alone. The people who stood beside me—and God’s guidance throughout it all—are the reason I have been able to keep growing, serving, and stepping into each new chapter with gratitude.
