Today we’d like to introduce you to Vic.
Hi Vic, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our story started with a simple passion for preserving life’s biggest milestones. What began as a love for photography quickly grew into something much bigger, a business built around creating meaningful experiences for families during some of the most important moments of their lives.
In the early days, we did everything ourselves. We spent countless hours learning, investing in our craft, and building relationships one client at a time. Every session, every review, and every family that trusted us helped shape who we are today.
As our business grew, so did our vision. We expanded from offering photography to creating a full luxury experience with professional hair and makeup, curated client wardrobes, unique venues, and a team dedicated to making every family feel comfortable and celebrated. Today, we’ve had the privilege of photographing thousands of families and have earned over 1,000 five-star reviews, something we’re incredibly grateful for.
What has never changed is our “why.” We’re parents ourselves, so we understand how quickly children grow and how precious these moments are. That’s why every session is about more than beautiful photos, it’s about creating memories that families will cherish for generations.
Looking back, the journey hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has helped us build a business centered on quality, service, and genuine care for the families who choose us. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and even more excited about where we’re headed.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. Like many small-business owners, we had to learn through experience, trial and error, and a lot of long days. In the beginning, we were balancing every part of the business ourselves, from photographing sessions and editing galleries to answering emails, managing bookings, creating sets, marketing, and handling the financial side of running a company.
One of the biggest challenges was learning how to grow without losing the personal experience that made clients trust us in the first place. As demand increased, we had to build a dependable team, create systems, establish clear policies, and learn how to delegate while still maintaining the quality and consistency attached to our name.
Balancing business and family has also been a constant challenge. Because we are parents, we have had to be very intentional about creating boundaries, protecting family time, and designing a schedule that allows us to serve our clients without missing the important moments in our own children’s lives.
There have also been seasons of uncertainty, unexpected expenses, creative burnout, and moments when we questioned whether the sacrifices were worth it. However, every struggle pushed us to become more organized, more resilient, and more confident in the direction of our business.
The road has not been easy, but it has been meaningful. Each challenge taught us something valuable and helped shape Vic & Marie Photography into the business it is today.
We’ve been impressed with Vic & Marie Photography , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Vic & Marie Photography is a full-service maternity, newborn, and family photography studio based in Humble, Texas, serving families throughout the Greater Houston area and beyond. We specialize in documenting life’s biggest milestones, from pregnancy and newborns to birthdays, cake smashes, and growing families, with an experience that is designed to be as memorable as the images themselves.
What sets us apart is that we focus on the entire client experience, not just the final gallery. We provide professional hair and makeup, an extensive client wardrobe, thoughtfully designed studio sets, luxury venue options, and personalized guidance every step of the way. Our goal is to make every family feel comfortable, celebrated, and confident from the moment they book until they receive their finished artwork.
We’re also known for building lasting relationships with our clients. Many families begin with us during their first pregnancy and continue returning year after year as their children grow. Watching those families come back for baby number two, three, or even milestone sessions years later is one of the greatest compliments we could ever receive.
As a family-owned business, we understand firsthand how quickly time passes. That perspective influences everything we do. We don’t see photography as simply taking pictures, we see it as preserving moments that can never be recreated. Every image represents a chapter in a family’s story, and we take that responsibility seriously.
Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is the trust we’ve earned within our community. We’ve been fortunate to receive over 1,000 five-star reviews and have built our business largely through referrals and returning clients. That level of loyalty means far more to us than any award because it reflects the relationships we’ve built and the experiences we’ve created.
As we continue to grow, our mission remains the same: to provide families with a luxury, stress-free experience and timeless portraits they’ll treasure for generations. We want every client who walks through our doors to leave feeling cared for, valued, and excited to come back for the next chapter of their family’s story.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I wouldn’t describe myself as someone who takes reckless risks, but I do believe in taking calculated ones. For me, every major decision comes down to asking one question: “Will this create a better experience for our clients and help build something that lasts?” If the answer is yes, I’m willing to step outside of my comfort zone.
One of the biggest risks we took was continually reinvesting back into the business instead of settling for where we were. Whether it was expanding our studio, investing in new equipment, creating custom sets, offering luxury venues, building a client wardrobe, or hiring and training a team, none of those decisions came with guaranteed returns. They required a lot of faith, planning, and confidence in the vision we had for our brand.
Another risk has been saying “no” to opportunities that didn’t align with the experience we wanted to provide. It can be tempting as a small business to say yes to everything, but we’ve learned that protecting our quality, our family time, and our reputation is just as important as growing revenue. Sometimes the biggest risk is trusting that doing what’s best in the long term is more important than what’s easiest in the moment.
I also believe that every entrepreneur takes risks simply by choosing to build something of their own. There are no guarantees. You invest your time, money, and energy into an idea that may or may not succeed. There are moments of uncertainty, unexpected challenges, and plenty of lessons along the way. But I think growth comes from being willing to make thoughtful decisions even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.
At the end of the day, I don’t take risks for the sake of taking risks. I take them when they align with our mission, improve the experience we provide, and move our business closer to the vision we’ve been building since day one. Looking back, many of the decisions that felt the most uncomfortable at the time ended up becoming the milestones that helped shape Vic & Marie Photography into what it is today.
