Hidden Gems: Meet Walter/ Dalphne Harrison of Jumpland Moonwalks & Party Rentals

Today we’d like to introduce you to Walter/ Dalphne Harrison

Hi Walter/ Dalphne , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My wife and I were both raised in entrepreneurial families, where hard work, innovation, and independence were core values instilled in us from a young age. Having this background we spent many days thinking how we will have a successful family business. With that being said we have had several business adventures as a husband and wife team from a cleaning service to vending machines. We discovered Jumpland Moonwalks and Party Rentals when we rented a moonwalk for our kids, the excitement that it brough to our kids made us think of the many exciting days we could bring to kids all around the city and we quickly realize that this business could be the one that for us.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We had a big vision and a budget that did not match. We started with two regular moonwalks that we purchased from our savings. We were getting more bookings than we had moonwalks which created a problem with delivering moonwalks in a timely manner. We also faced a challenge of not having waterslides and everyone knows how hot it gets in Houston. Many of our customers were requesting for waterslides and we could not fill the order because we only had two regular moonwalks. As the demands got higher for waterslides we applied for a few small business loans and were denied. At this point we knew this business could be successful but we had to work hard on our jobs to save to enlarge the family business. Jumpland Moonwalks and Party Rentals became a true family business, I have 3 boys all of which made the delivering process a little easier as time went on. We made a plan to pray, save and purchase at least 1-2 items for the business each year. The results of the praying, and saving plan worked, within the next 10 years we went from 2 regular moonwalks to 2 warehouses filled with waterslides, moonwalks, commercial tents, trackless train, hayrides, obstacle courses, table, chairs, machines and more. We were also blessed to have a few contract workers to meet the demands.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
