Today we’d like to introduce you to Zion Castañeda.
Hi Zion, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, whether through design, writing, events, or marketing. What started as creating graphics and helping friends with creative projects gradually evolved into a deeper passion for helping brands, organizations, and communities communicate with intention.
Over the years, I realized that many businesses didn’t just need better marketing. They needed clarity. They needed someone who could connect their vision to the people they were trying to reach. That realization led me to launch NOIZ. Creative Solutions, a creative strategy and marketing agency focused on helping brands, nonprofits, and cultural organizations amplify their message and build meaningful connections.
Today, my work with NOIZ. is more than just marketing. It’s marketing, branding, creative strategy, experiential events, content creation, and community engagement. I’ve had the opportunity to support fashion brands, restaurants, nonprofits, churches, and cultural events throughout Houston, helping bring ideas to life through thoughtful creative direction and storytelling.
What continues to drive me in this work is the belief that creativity has the power to bring people together. Whether I’m building a campaign, designing a brand, or producing an event, my goal is always the same: to create work that resonates, sparks conversation, and helps people find their frequency… and make a lot of GOOD NOIZ.
What many people don’t know is how deeply my creativity is rooted in community and family. I was born in Austin and raised in Houston, and both sides of my family have nurtured my creative spirit from the very beginning. On my Mexican side, summers were often spent at the Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin, surrounded by art, culture, and storytelling. On my Black side in Houston, I learned creativity through tradition and community. One grandmother was immersing me in Mexican Art and introducing me to Mexican Artists and the other was keeping me in rooms with older Black women who were teaching me how to sew and quilt. And the best part, was learning how to crochet from a very skilled and seasoned Black Man who took pride in every slight movement of his hand and that needle.
Looking back, those experiences shaped how I see the world today. They taught me that creativity is more than self-expression. It’s about preserving culture, building connections, and bringing people together. I’m grateful that what began as a passion for design has grown into a career centered around culture, community, and impact.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This definitely has not been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for most creative entrepreneurs, and I hear that from my peers often. One of my biggest challenges has been learning how to value my work and transition from being “the creative person who can help” to running a business with systems, boundaries, and a long-term vision.
I started by saying yes to almost everything. I was designing, managing social media, building websites, producing events, copywriting, and solving problems that often extended far beyond the original scope of a project. While those experiences helped me develop a diverse skill set, they also taught me the importance of setting boundaries, pricing my work appropriately, and recognizing the value I bring to a project.
Another challenge has been navigating an industry where creative work is often seen as a luxury rather than a necessity. Part of my journey has involved helping organizations understand that branding, storytelling, and community engagement are not just aesthetic choices; they’re strategic tools that can create real impact.
There have also been many moments of self-doubt. Building something of your own requires a lot of faith, especially when you’re creating a path that doesn’t always have a clear blueprint. AND creating a path that my family didn’t see clearly at all. It caused a lot of tension when I was choosing this life for myself. But every challenge has helped me grow as both a creative and a leader. I’m grateful for those struggles, though, because they’ve shaped the way I approach my work today: with more confidence, intention, and a deeper understanding of myself and why I do what I do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about NOIZ. Creative Solutions?
NOIZ. Creative Solutions is a creative strategy and marketing agency built around a simple idea: every brand, organization, and community has a unique frequency, and our job is to help them amplify it. We specialize in branding, marketing strategy, experiential events, and creative direction for businesses, nonprofits, and cultural organizations. While many agencies focus solely on aesthetics or social media, we focus on creating cohesive experiences that connect people to a brand’s purpose, whether that’s through a campaign, an event, a website, or a long-term growth strategy.
Over the past year, we’ve had the opportunity to work across a variety of industries throughout Houston. Our clients have included fashion brands, restaurants, cultural organizations, churches, and community-focused businesses. Beyond traditional marketing, we’ve helped organizations streamline communications, develop brand identities, build websites, launch campaigns, and create systems that better connect them with the people they serve. One of our most rewarding partnerships has been with Pilgrim Congregational UCC, where our work has expanded beyond social media into communications strategy, digital engagement, website development, and community outreach.
Experiential events have become a major part of our work and one of the areas we’re increasingly known for. This year, NOIZ. partnered with luxury stylist Mendel McCoy to produce and market events, including Cuff It With Coach at the Houston Galleria in collaboration with Coach, creating a luxury retail experience centered around style, personalization, and community. We also supported Sunsets in Prada alongside Yours Truly Perfume Bar and J. Aimer Jewelry, bringing together fashion, fragrance, and storytelling in a curated luxury experience. And at the beginning of May, we produced Carpet is the Canvas, a Met Gala Watch Party that celebrated fashion as art and gathered Houston’s creative community around one of culture’s biggest nights. Through these events, we’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with brands and partners including Coach, Casa Maestri Tequila, Mendel McCoy, Yours Truly Perfume Bar, J. Aimer Jewelry, and a growing network of Houston creative and businesses, including PRVT. SORC with Greg ‘August’, DJ Truestorey., and DJ Jazzie Rose.
What sets NOIZ. apart is our ability to bridge strategy, creativity, and community. We don’t just create content or design graphics; we help build systems around ideas. Whether we’re working with a creative brand or a local business, our approach starts with understanding the people behind the brand and the audience they’re trying to reach. We believe the strongest marketing doesn’t feel like marketing at all. It feels like belonging. That perspective has allowed us to move fluidly between industries while maintaining a focus on authentic connection and measurable impact.
What I’m most proud of is that NOIZ. has grown into more than an agency. It’s becoming a platform for culture, collaboration, and creative opportunity in Houston. Looking ahead, we’re continuing to expand our experiential work through new partnerships in hospitality, fashion, and lifestyle spaces, including the launch of SAT., a new editorial-inspired brunch concept designed to bring together good food, conversation, creativity, and community. As we grow, our goal remains the same: to create meaningful experiences, amplify important voices, and help brands find the right frequency to make some NOIZ.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I think mentorship and networking are often talked about as two separate things, but for me, they’ve been deeply connected. Some of the most influential mentors in my life came through my church community. What began as faith-based mentorship grew into guidance on leadership, business, relationships, creativity, and life. They didn’t just teach me professional skills; they helped shape the way I move through the world. Having people who believed in me before I fully believed in myself made a tremendous difference in my journey.
When it comes to networking, I wish I could say I had some perfectly strategic plan, but the truth is I learned by jumping in. Or maybe more accurately, by being pushed in by people who saw something in me. Friends invited me into rooms, introduced me to people, encouraged me to take opportunities I wasn’t sure I was ready for, and reminded me that I belonged there. What felt like chaos at first eventually became confidence, and what felt like falling became learning how to fall gracefully.
One thing I’ve learned is that networking works best when you stop treating it like networking. The relationships that have had the greatest impact on my life and career started with genuine curiosity, shared interests, mutual support, and showing up consistently. Some of my closest collaborators today were simply people I met at an event, connected with over a conversation, or supported before there was ever an opportunity to work together.
If I could offer any advice, it would be to invest in people before you need something from them. Be curious. Be generous. Show up. Ask questions. Support the work of others. And don’t be afraid to let people help you. Looking back, so much of what I’ve been able to accomplish over the last two years is because of the people I’ve met in the last two years who encouraged me, challenged me, opened doors for me, and believed in me. I’m incredibly grateful for that community, and I honestly don’t think I’d be where I am today without them. They know who they are 😉
(I love y’all.)
