Hi Alexis , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Muddy’s Buddies Daycare was created from love, resilience, and a very personal journey. It is a Latina-owned, family-run dog daycare inspired by our dog Muddy, who became paralyzed and completely changed the way we saw pet care.
When Muddy’s health changed, we experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to find care that is not only safe, but truly compassionate and patient. Through his journey, we learned that dogs—especially those with special needs deserve more than basic supervision. They deserve understanding, comfort, and a place where they feel genuinely cared for.
That experience became the heart of our business.
We decided to create Muddy’s Buddies Daycare as a place where every dog is treated like family. A place built on patience, love, and attention to detail where dogs can feel safe, happy, and understood no matter their age, energy level, or needs.
What started with Muddy has now grown into a trusted daycare where many families bring their pets knowing they will be treated with the same care and dedication we give our own.
Today, Muddy’s Buddies stands for more than just daycare it represents love in action, second chances, and a promise that every dog deserves to feel at home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting Muddy’s Buddies has definitely been a journey. Since opening on February 23, 2026, one of our biggest challenges has been building a brand-new business from the ground up while creating a safe, welcoming space designed specifically for small-breed dogs.
From transforming an empty space into a fully indoor daycare and boarding facility to building trust within the community, every step has required hard work, patience, and passion. As a newer business, getting our name out there and growing steadily has been both exciting and challenging, but seeing returning customers, happy pups, and supportive pet parents makes it all worth it.
Like many small businesses, there have been long days, unexpected obstacles, and lots of learning along the way, but every challenge has helped us grow stronger. We’re proud of how far we’ve come in such a short time and are excited for what’s ahead for Muddy’s Buddies.

We specialize in small breed dog daycare, boarding, enrichment-based play, and gentle handling for dogs of all temperaments, including seniors, high-energy dogs, and pets with special needs. Every dog in our care is treated as an individual, with attention to their personality, comfort level, and routine.
What sets us apart is our hands-on, family-style approach to pet care. We are not a large corporate facility our focus is quality over quantity. We build real relationships with every dog and owner, ensuring trust, consistency, and personalized care every day.
Muddy’s Buddies was inspired by our dog Muddy, who became paralyzed and changed our entire perspective on what compassionate pet care truly means. Because of him, we built a business centered on patience, understanding, and making sure no dog is ever overlooked or treated like “just another pet.”

How do you think about luck?
Luck has played a mixed role in both my life and business, but I’ve learned that most of what looks like “luck” is really timing, resilience, and how you respond to challenges.
One of the most impactful moments in our journey was what many would consider “bad luck” our dog Muddy becoming paralyzed. At the time, it was heartbreaking and completely changed our daily life. But looking back, that experience became the foundation of everything we’ve built. It opened our eyes to how limited compassionate, truly attentive pet care can be, and it ultimately inspired us to create Muddy’s Buddies Daycare.
In that sense, what started as a difficult and unexpected situation became the reason our business exists today. It pushed us into a purpose we may not have discovered otherwise.
We’ve also experienced “good luck” in the form of community support, loyal clients, and word-of-mouth growth. Many of our customers came from referrals, which helped us grow organically without losing our personal touch. Being trusted by pet parents and seeing dogs genuinely excited to come back every day feels like one of the biggest blessings in this journey.
Overall, I wouldn’t describe our success as luck alone. It’s been a combination of life-changing challenges, faith in the process, hard work, and staying committed to doing right by every dog that comes through our doors.
What we’ve learned most is that sometimes what feels like bad luck in the moment can actually become the beginning of something meaningful.
