Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber E. Williams.
Hi Amber, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My career began as a high school English teacher and I grew in my career and entered into school leadership. I served in several leadership roles, including high school principal, and found a love for leading, training, and development. I soon started my own consulting business, specializing in coaching and training of leaders, aspiring leaders, and business owners and providing services to schools and organizations as a certified Woman-owned/Minority-owned business. I have realized that my career possibilities are limitless and I have gained experience in higher education, educational technology, and writing.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No road is ever smooth! I have learned many valuable lessons in both my professional and personal life. Professionally, I have navigated a variety of organizational cultures, advocated for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and faced career crossroads. Personally, I have overcome health issues, lost loved ones, raised two boys, and maintained mental health during trying national and world events.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Williams Education Consulting?
I started my business with the goal of providing authentic, quality coaching to aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs. I have prided myself on building relationships with my clients and exceeding their expectations in coaching and support. My business also evolved to include dissertation support for graduate students pursuing doctorates. The path to earning a doctorate can be challenging for many graduate students, especially students of color. My goal is to provide the resources, advice, and support to help them navigate the process and earn their degree. I am truly proud of the lifelong relationships that I develop with leaders and professionals through my work.
I do not run my business full-time at the moment–I provide limited services to select clients. I keep my client list small in order to provide full support to each of them! If someone is interested in coaching or dissertation support, I encourage them to reach out so that we can chat and see if we are a good match.
I continue to learn and grow like the clients that I serve and I am always eager to share my knowledge and experiences with others. I have several published works, including my most recent works titled “No Strings Attached: Addressing the Need for Equity in Black Schools” (featured in Fighting the Good Fight: Narratives of the African American Principalship) and Women of Influence: Stories to Inspire, Encourage, and Empower the Professional Woman (a collaborative work). I am also passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and in the community and this passion impacts much of what I do.
What are your plans for the future?
Currently, I am continuing my education as a life-long learner, including completing my doctorate and earning various certifications. I am happily employed by an organization that allows me to serve leaders in the Houston area. I continue to write, present, and teach in the areas of leadership and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
