Inspiring Conversations with Andrea Walker of Home At Last

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Walker.

Hi Andrea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
While walking in the neighborhood, I always admired homes with door wreaths. I was really amazed how something so small could make a huge difference. I began watching YouTube videos to learn how to make wreaths. After 3 months of practice, I decided to start my very own business Home At Last in December of 2017. I advertised for my business by word of mouth and on social media. I made several wreaths by custom request. My business was very successful until February 2019. I received the news that my husband had Pancreatic Cancer. This devastating news changed my life. I quit my job and small business to become a full time caregiver for my husband. We spent many days and nights In the hospital. During his treatment, he encouraged me to restart my business for stress relief. He would go to the supply store with me when he was feeling well. I started making wreaths again for holidays, baby showers, and everyday door wreaths. 6 months later, my husband’s health began to decline in weight and strength. My wreath business became therapy to help me cope with the pain. Later on October 24, my husband lost his battle with Cancer. It was a traumatic experience for myself and 3 kids. While still grieving the loss of my husband 2 months later, I was diagnosed with Lupus. I was extremely fatigued and needed help with meals and school transportation for my kids. 3 months later after feeling better I was able to return to my wreath business. Presently I’m still making wreaths to enhance the doors of others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The death of my husband and diagnosis of Lupus for me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in custom door wreaths, holidays and baby showers.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The unity and the success of the other citizens. The landscaping and street structures.
