Inspiring Conversations with Bianca Ogboghodo of HoneyBeeScentsCo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Ogboghodo.

Hi Bianca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
What began as a hobby during the height of the pandemic turned into a business of passion. I started purchasing candle materials and teaching myself how to make a candle from scratch. I distributed those sample candles to my family, who were pleased with the results. After many trials and errors, HoneyBeeScents was established in October 2020. Once I started making candles, I realized I had a general passion for scents and graphic design. I incorporated this into my business which now includes candles, wax melts, room/linen sprays, and graphic designs.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all! My first batch of candles nearly defeated me. I had to learn to accept constructive criticism. At times I struggled to maintain supplies and bring traffic to my website. Sometimes I had my doubts and fears. Being a full-time student while juggling a new business is not easy, but I learned how to persevere daily. I am incredibly proud of how far I’ve come. I try to think of ways to use my abilities to make this business work for me. I think of the best ideas while asleep, so I wake up wanting to revamp and restyle my business. I do have to say, candle making involves a lot of trial and error but finding your niche is the key.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is candle-making; I make candles, wax melts, and room/linen sprays. I am a full-time entrepreneur who pours (see what I did there) my heart into candle making. HoneyBeeScents has a candle for every milestone and season in the collection—for example, the birthday cake candle. It’s been a fan favorite! The candle scents are not limited to women. There are options for the fellas, and it’s called “Mandles.” I am most proud of my candle-making skills and finding a creative outlet.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I realized that patience is a virtue. I had to get creative during the pandemic to promote my business online. Gone are the days of marketing when I could set up a booth and have people sample the scents. Social distancing stopped that sort of marketing for this business. Instead, I learned to adapt and think on my feet. If anything, it’s made me more adaptable to change, and I’m grateful!
