Inspiring Conversations with Brian Marvin of Renzo Gracie Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Marvin.

Brian Marvin

Hi Brian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I opened this academy in Sugar Land as I was retiring after 20 years Active Duty in the Army. My original goal exiting the Army was to enter Law Enforcement, but I had the opportunity to open my own Jiu-Jitsu Academy in July of 2014.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was tough in the beginning transition from the Army into the regular workforce, establishing relationships in the community, and trying to learn how to operate a business, as I learned.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize at teaching the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at every level for every age. From the youngest child needing confidence to the professional athletes competing at the highest level, the family wanting to do an activity together, and everything in between jiu jitsu have a variety of applications, and we teach them all.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the diversity of Houston. It’s amazing to be able to live within so many different cultures.

The heat is definitely not for the faint-hearted.
