Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgett Dickey.
Hi Bridgett, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story really starts at the kitchen table — or rather, in the arguments that happened around it.
My parents were married for 46 years, and for all 46 of those years, money was a battlefield. They fought constantly — not because they didn’t love each other, but because they both wanted to be right more than they wanted to win together. And in the end, they both lost. That truth broke my heart, and it planted a seed in me that I carried for years without fully understanding it.
I watched two people I loved deeply allow money — something that should have been a tool — become a wedge that divided them. And I made a quiet promise to myself that I would do something about that. Not just for my own life, but for other people’s lives too.
That promise eventually became Dickey Financial & Wealth Management. I became a licensed financial planner operating across five states, but more than the credentials, I became a woman on a mission. I realized that so many of us — especially women — were never taught how to talk about money, let alone manage it with confidence. We inherited silence, shame, and conflict around finances, and then we wondered why it felt so hard.
So I built something different. Through my “Girl, Mind Your Money” brand, I create a space where women can learn, breathe, ask the “embarrassing” questions, and finally feel empowered around their finances — without the fighting, the shame, or the confusion.
My parents’ story was my why. Helping women rewrite theirs is my purpose.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth? Not even close. But I wouldn’t trade my story for anything, because every struggle shaped the woman — and the business — I am today.
It started early. I wasn’t a skinny girl growing up, and my mother didn’t know how to handle that. I had to see a speech therapist, and somewhere along the way, I understood something that no little girl should ever have to understand — that I wasn’t the child my mother wanted. I grew up knowing that, feeling that. And it did something to me. It made me question my worth long before I ever had the language to name what I was experiencing.
Then came college. I was told to go, but no one offered to help me get there. My dad wanted to help, but my mother made it clear that once I graduated high school, I was on my own. So I was. It took me ten years to finish my degree — ten years of financial setbacks, no family support, and figuring everything out by myself. At 21, I left home and never looked back.
But even after all of that, life wasn’t done testing me. While I was in the middle of building this business — pouring everything I had into this dream — my world fell apart in multiple directions at once. I went through a devastating divorce. I was laid off from not one, but two jobs in less than a year. And in the middle of all of that, I was also caring for my then-spouse, who had been diagnosed with cancer.
I was building a business about financial empowerment while personally navigating financial chaos, heartbreak, and loss — all at the same time.
But here’s what I know now: I was never meant to have an easy road. I was meant to have a real one. One that would make me credible, compassionate, and unshakeable when I sit across from a woman who feels like her financial life is falling apart. Because I’ve been there. I am her story — just further down the road.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My firm is Dickey Financial & Wealth Management, and at the heart of everything we do is one simple but powerful belief — every person deserves to understand their money, own their money, and stop being afraid of their money.
I am a licensed financial planner operating across five states — Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Maryland — and I specialize in working with women, men, teachers, and business owners — anyone who is ready to take control of their financial future, whether they’re just getting started or rebuilding from scratch.
Beyond my firm, I also serve as a Financial Education Ministry Leader at Fountain of Praise Church, where I oversee financial education for a congregation of over 28,000 members. This ministry work is deeply personal to me — because financial empowerment isn’t just a business, it’s a calling.
Teachers hold a very special place in my heart. They spend their lives investing in others, yet financial planning is rarely something anyone invests back into them. Many teachers are navigating retirement systems that are complex and confusing, often without the guidance they deserve. I created a space specifically where educators can get clear on their benefits, their budget, and their future — in language that actually makes sense.
For business owners — men and women alike — I help bridge the gap between running a business and building personal wealth simultaneously. Too many entrepreneurs are cash-flowing a business while their personal finances are on life support. We fix that.
What sets us apart is how. This isn’t a stuffy, intimidating financial firm where you leave feeling talked at and more confused than when you arrived. My approach centers on giving every single dollar a designated purpose and a home through a strategic banking system that creates clarity, confidence, and control. No more guessing. No more money just “disappearing.” Just a system that actually works for your life.
Under my “Girl, Mind Your Money” brand, I host weekly webinars every Friday at noon, offer hands-on financial education through workbooks and guided frameworks, and my “Sis, Mind Your Money” podcast is launching this spring — a space where listeners can get candid, encouraging, and judgment-free financial guidance. I also offer the Financial Retainer Community, a membership program designed to give clients ongoing access, support, and accountability as they build their financial foundation.
What am I most proud of? The transformation. When someone comes to me overwhelmed and leaves with a plan — when they go from financial anxiety to financial confidence — that’s everything. That’s why I built this.
I want your readers to know that it is never too late to get your money right. And you don’t have to figure it out alone.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The first person who deserves all the credit is God. Every step, every open door, every time I should have quit and didn’t — that was Him. I couldn’t do any of this without Him, and I will never pretend otherwise.
Second is my dad. He was my biggest cheerleader, my loudest voice, and my safest place. He affirmed me, loved me unconditionally, and told me I could be whatever I wanted to be — and he meant it. My dad started a business of his own but wasn’t able to finish it. But what he gave me was far more valuable than a blueprint. He showed me how to serve people, how to show up for others, and how to lead with love. He is the reason you see the woman standing before you today.
Then there’s my sister from another mother, Ono. She has been my ride-or-die through everything — and I mean everything. She was there when I lost my dad. She was there when I released 100 pounds. She held my hand through health scares, walked beside me through my divorce, and cheered me on every single step of building this business. Some people say they’ll be there. Ono actually shows up.
My business coach, Dawniel Patterson Winningham, also deserves tremendous credit. She helped me see the bigger vision for what this brand could become and showed me how to build it with intention. She’s the one who helped me put “Girl, Mind Your Money” on the map — and I am forever grateful for her investment in me and my mission.
I also have to give her flowers — Schelo Collier, founder of Black Women Invest. Schelo has poured into me in a way that is hard to put into words. She showed up for me, opened her stage, and gave me the opportunity to serve her community and help bring her vision to life. That kind of sisterhood and support in business is rare, and I don’t take it lightly.
And last but absolutely not least — my team. The people who work behind the scenes that the world never sees. They show up, they execute, they carry the vision with me every single day. None of what you see on the outside would be possible without what they pour in on the inside.
I am not a self-made woman. I am a well-loved woman — and that has made all the difference.
