Hi Brionne Armstrong and Teja Dabney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We met at LSU as a part of a career based organization, and through that we became best friends and roommates. Throughout our friendship we discovered our shared passions for skincare, bodycare, and of course, hair care! We both would experiment with different products and brands, and through many trials and errors we realized that finding the perfect beauty routine didn’t have to be so complicated. Every woman deserves simple yet effective solutions to their beauty related problems. As we matured and became more successful in our career fields we decided to create our own brand, More To Beauty.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Unfortunately, it has not been a smooth road; of course funding is always an issue, and also life can easily get in the way. Making time for daily business tasks and goals can really be a heavy load to carry. Since we’re both still working full time within our careers, and one of us is also a mother of two, our business sometimes is put on the back burner. Doing everything by yourself, you have to be very intentional. You have to make sure you carve out time daily to work on the business, even if it’s just ten minutes to create an Instagram post or write down potential ideas. It can be hard but the rewarding factor is knowing that we’re creating something that’s all our own.

Our current (and future) Beauties are able to take a step back from chaos, and a step forward towards a softer life that elevates quality over quantity.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Although More To Beauty was not founded during COVID, we observed the impact on small businesses. As business owners, we have to be knowledgeable about current socioeconomic events that affect your business and consumer base, such as supply chain management, a decrease in the average disposable income, disruptions in distribution and delivery networks, etc. We learned that being proactive about strategizing for macro- and micro-economic trends and potential risks helps us navigate an increasingly complex and globalized market.
