Today we’d like to introduce you to Byron Alexander.
Hi Byron, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I was laid off in December 2019 after 17+ years with a Fortune 500 company. Since it was the end of the year, I spent December with family with the intent to start looking for a new job in January. I started that job search as planned and had several interviews, many times getting to the final stage in the process with a couple large corporations, but then Covid19 and the shutdown. Around the same time, I decided to re-evaluate my situation and pray for direction. In mid-March 2020, I filed for my LLC and started Danon Consulting LLC.
Though it was an unfortunate time, a time of uncertainty, I used that year to create my business plan and began reconnecting with people I worked with in the past and building a network that would position me for success when things got back to “normal.”
In early 2021, we landed our first client, and the journey began.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. As a start-up, there are always obstacles. For us, one of the first obstacles was finding our niche in the market. Our initial target market was startups that needed assistance with marketing. But most of the businesses we met with either didn’t understand the importance of marketing their products and services or didn’t have a marketing budget. So we had to target a different audience with a different message. We locked in on small businesses that had made it past the three-year mark, realized they needed a marketing strategy, and had a budget for our services.
But I am grateful for that experience because a lot of our clients struggle when their market and target audience begin to change. We share our journey with them and the importance of understanding those key components of marketing…understanding your target market, where to reach them, and creating a message that will help them understand how your product or service will meet their needs.
When they have that understanding, they will find the budget for your products and services.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
Danon Consulting is a marketing consulting company. Our mission is to partner with clients to help them uncover the wants and needs of their customers, employees, and market so they can make well-informed business decisions. We design custom go-to marketing strategies for small businesses because most of them do not have the marketing experience, time, or resources to do it on their own. So, we help them identify their target audience, understand how and where to reach them, and create a strategy to connect with that audience so they can grow their brand and business. We use our experience marketing in both B2C and B2B to help our clients find a competitive advantage or niche in the market they are currently in or planning to enter.
One of the things that sets us apart is when we create a marketing strategy for a client, it includes a few workshops to help them begin implementing the strategy. We do this to help them get started, helps with accountability, educates them on some basics of marketing, and continues to build our partnership. Many times that results in them hiring us to complete implementation and handling their marketing activities.
What matters most to you? Why?
Helping our clients achieve their vision and mission for their organization. For us, it is about purpose. Most entrepreneurs started their business to pursue a passion or purpose. We started Danon Consulting because we have a passion for not just providing marketing services but for educating entrepreneurs on how to market their products and services. It also aligns with my overall purpose in life, which is to in operate excellence while giving all glory to God. It’s not us, but God in us that allows us to use our gifts (talents) at the highest level.
