Inspiring Conversations with Chance Brown of CB&A, Realtors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chance Brown.

Hi Chance, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my career in real estate working for David Weekley Homes in sales and sales management. I made the move to full-time Realtor and decided in 2013 that opening a brokerage was the best move for my family. We franchised and made the decision early on in that relationship that we would go independent once that agreement ended. In August of 2018, we launched CB&A, Realtors with 134 agents and one office. Today we are nearly 500 agents in 5 offices in Houston and will be opening our first office in Austin this Spring. It’s an exciting time of growth for us.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It started out rocky, but has gotten better every year. When I first started out, we went from a nice, comfortable salary to no income and then my wife got pregnant with our son. For a while there, things were very tough, financially. Then the pendulum swung completely the other direction and we had more business than we could handle. Then it swung back as we struggled to launch a different kind of brokerage in Houston and doing so with little help. Since we began our journey as an independent brokerage, though, things have been looking up.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about CB&A, Realtors?
CB&A, Realtors was born from a place where I wanted to create a brokerage that gave agents world-class tech, tools, and support while empowering them with that support to go build amazing businesses. That freedom to run your business your way is what attracts people to our model. As a result, we have been named the #1 Best Place to Work by the Houston Business Journal for 6 straight years, the #1 Top Workplace by the Houston Chronicle the last 2 years, and were recently named the #1 Top Workplace in America. We have built a culture where our agents truly care about each other and encourage each other’s success.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I was outside all the time. I grew up on the west end of Galveston so we were on the water or building something almost every day. I played sports and competed in academics as well. My best friend and I had a lawn mowing business that actually did really well for a couple of 11-year-olds.
