Today we’d like to introduce you to Christiane Perkins
Hi Christiane, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Wow let’s see I started doing hair at 7 my hair was very thick coarse and unmanageable. My mother had 8 children and 5 girls but couldn’t do hair to save the world. I got tired of the kids picking on me so I put a relaxer in my hair JUST FOR ME to be exact. I did my first weave ponytail at 9 and box braids at 11, I was the neighborhood hairdresser. I did hair throughout high school, college and kind of let it go after I graduated nursing school. I practiced nursing for several years before being charged with 17 felonies and ultimately losing my license. I moved to North Carolina from Ohio to retake cosmetic arts because I had let my license expire. I met some really awesome people and was able to attend cosmetic school for free. I did hair, worked the airline all while on section 8 a single mother trying to raise 3 kids and it still wasn’t enough! I told myself I was moving to Houston as it was always an aspiration to open a business here. I landed in 2019 and took off from there I started in my home doing hair, got a suite for two years then open my walk-in natural hair and wig boutique. Currently a full service salon with braiders, lash techs, nail techs, cosmetic artist and makeup services
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s has been hell from the start especially starting the salon i experienced so much adversity the leasing company didn’t want me to lease the space I literally had to beg and to this day the company still threatens to end my lease after thousands of dollars in renovations, they won’t allow me to get the sign I want, our cars have been towed I’ve been robbed four times in one year

Prayer prayer and more prayer then after prayer you have to do the work you have to be humble you have to give back you have to network and educate always educate yourself
