Inspiring Conversations with Cody Mier of Cody Mier Realty Team

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Mier

Hi Cody, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I can look back and laugh at the start of this now, but the 22 year old version of myself wasn’t quite as amused when my then girlfriend of 6 months startled the heck out of me (at 6am, mind you) on a Saturday morning with, “BABE, I’M PREGNANT!” I’d started my real estate classes at this point, but this was about to severely derail that goal for quite some time. I was working at Discount Tire Company (shout out to them for really instilling work ethic, people skills, and customer service in me!) at the time and I decided immediately that we had to buy a house and be responsible. To fast forward a bit, we did end up closing on a brand new home in Cypress, TX that December (2011). For the next 4 years I allowed myself to get stuck in the pattern of working to pay bills and I almost lost track of my personal aspirations. 2015 rolled around and I was done; done with the same damn thing every single day, done with doing things the way someone else said was best, done with the ceiling that was being placed on my potential, and absolutely disgusted with the rat race I’d put myself in! I jumped off full-time into real estate on April 1st of 2015 and no, that’s not an April fool’s joke! And y’all, thank the little lord baby Jesus I did, because I have met more people, seen more things, discovered more about myself, and grown more than my tiny little naive mind could’ve ever fathomed possible back then. I have assisted hundreds of people accomplish life altering goals through real estate, grown a successful team (Cody Mier Realty Team), been recognized as a top 20 agent under 40 years of age (HAR Top 20 under 40) in Houston, and I proudly run an office of over 50 agents for CB&A, Realtors! While I pride myself on being undeniably impressive in my business, I am most thankful to be in such a great position to give back. Whether it’s teaching agents how to improve and develop skills, assisting folks (clients) to accomplish their real estate dreams, raising my 3 beautiful babies, helping my momma after she helped me for so long, or being the largest donor to the CB&A, Foundation, I am most grateful to give at every turn. I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years hold in store!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth!? Yeah, it’s smooth alright. About as smooth as driving the struggle bus with square tires down a rocky road at some points! The truth is, that smooth, rocky, it makes no difference, because I love the road I’m on. Hell, I’m the one that chose (and continues to choose) to be on it after all, so I’d better love it! Ah, the struggle bus, that’s been my vehicle on this road a time or two and while its not a fun ride at the time, looking back, it sure is a wonderful place to learn, grow, and build strength bubba. On this road, I’ve gone through a divorce, gone broke and almost lost everything a couple times because of different types of markets and/or not running my business like a business owner. I’ve sacrificed moments with loved ones and lost time I’ll never get back while I endeavored to succeed, suffered in silence, and stayed the course through the hardest of times. Somewhere along the way I got lucky enough to enjoy it all; yes, even the struggles and loneliness. It’s all temporary, and it’s all leading to where I aim to go, so I consider the fact that it’s likely just a necessary part of this road/journey. I’ve learned to sit back and enjoy rather than watching it pass me by.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I may have mentioned this earlier, but my team and I aim to be Undeniably Impressive. Our clients are people who deserve to be astounded by the experiences they have with us; from the first time they meet us, on in to eternity. We promise consistent positivity, hard work, and a deep level of care for each of you. You’ll always be able to rely on us for transparency, positivity, and education, because these are deep rooted core values for us! Though our approach is highly systematic and process driven, we understand that real estate transactions are neither “one size fits all” nor anywhere near identical. For that reason, we stay prepared for curveballs, hurdles, and wrenches in the system at every turn! You are important and you should feel as such! You should be beyond comfortable and confident that you are in the care of people who make your desires, your needs, and your goals their passion! It’s wonderful to know that you are dealing with experts who consistently hone their craft to better serve folks, but we believe thats obvious. Like DUH! Everyone should be doing that! Are we really going to be out here settling for the bare minimum!? Not today y’all, not over here, not ever! We are so excited to meet you and we thank you for the opportunity to have a relationship with you and show you an undeniably impressive experience! The dream starts here.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m no stranger to risk, and actually, maybe I’ve become somewhat comfortable with many risks. When I decided to get into real estate, I jumped in head first with my clothes on with no plan other than to succeed. And in real life terms, that meant that I cashed out a 401k account that I figured “surely I’ll never use,” which was worth about $8,000 and said let’s go! And oh, side note here, me and that previous pregnancy scare girlfriend lady I was telling you about a minute ago, yeah, we were actually pregnant now! As far as I can remember, this is the risk that set me up to be okay with future risks and it showed me that everything’s going to be okay. If I’m on this side of the dirt, then nothing is so bad; I get to live another day and endeavor once more and I consider that a blessing! Listen, if you are alive (and especially if you are reading this), there’s no way to not take a risk. Let me explain. You’re either going to take a risk and dare to do something great, or you’re going to play it safe and RISK laying on your death bed, wishing you could go back and do it differently. Now look, tiny secret time here, just between you and I: THERE’S ONLY ONE OF THOSE RISKS THAT YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIX. If you take the risk now and it all fails, guess what? It doesn’t matter because you can still try again and again and again and again if you have to. But if you risk getting to the end of this road to regret not having tried, it’ll be too late and you won’t be able to change it. So, now that you know it’s a risk either way, what risk are you going to choose?
