Inspiring Conversations with Denisha Mathews of Denisha Mathews, REALTOR®

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denisha Mathews

Hi Denisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, my journey’s been quite a ride! I started out with a business marketing degree from UNT and dove straight into the corporate world, working my way up at a consumer debt management firm. I loved it, I really did. But then, life took a beautiful detour when I decided to become a stay-at-home mom. It was a tough choice, but it was absolutely the right one for our family.
Fast forward a few years, and we found ourselves packing up for Prague! My husband’s job took us there, and honestly, it was the most incredible adventure. Imagine, three little girls, and we’re exploring Europe! We visited 34 countries over four years, which was just…mind-blowing. I started a blog, ‘Love Joy Blessings,’ to document it all, and even created a community for expat women called ‘Blogger’s Circle.’ It led to some amazing experiences, like collaborating with a local boutique and even being recognized by the assistant Mayor of Prague.
During our time there, my faith deepened significantly. The church community we found was so diverse and supportive, and it really transformed me. When it was time to move back to the States, I felt a strong pull towards real estate. It’s always been something that interested me. So, I got my license, and then, surprise! Another baby! Balancing a newborn and a new career was definitely a challenge, but I just kept pushing forward. And honestly? God has been so faithful. The clients have just kept coming.
Looking back, it’s amazing how life unfolds. From corporate director to globetrotting mom to real estate agent, it’s been a wild, wonderful journey, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey, while filled with remarkable experiences, has also presented significant challenges that tested my resolve and deepened my faith.
Shortly after our relocation to Prague, my mother received a diagnosis of breast cancer. The distance created a sense of helplessness, but she’s a fighter and her unwavering faith sustained her through treatment. Thankfully, she was able to visit us in Prague for extended periods following her recovery, which meant the world.
We also experienced a critical medical incident with our eldest daughter. She ingested a button cell battery, resulting in emergency care in a Czech hospital. Navigating language barriers and differing medical perspectives was profoundly stressful. Ultimately, her life was saved, though she endured a six-week period of liquid nutrition through a feeding tube due to esophageal damage. This experience reinforced the fragility of life and strengthened our trust in the Lord!
Upon our return to the United States, my mom stayed with us to help with the girls while we moved into our new home. We spent as much time as possible together to make up for lost time! Nine months later, she was diagnosed with liver cancer, a diagnosis that defied typical patient profiles. I put my real estate studies on hold to provide her with full-time care as she underwent treatment in Houston. Tragically, she passed away four months later. Her absence remains a profound loss and we miss her everyday. Even still, God is good.

Following her passing, I resumed my real estate education at Champions School of Real Estate, successfully passing my examinations on the first attempt. She would’ve been so proud!

And then, just a few weeks after getting my license, I found out I was pregnant. I was eager to get started, and I learned as much as possible the first 8 months of my pregnancy. I maintained my real estate license after giving birth, though I questioned my ability to balance a new career with a newborn plus three elementary aged girls. I even transferred my license to a smaller brokerage to mitigate fees while I deliberated my future. Shortly after that decision, a client contacted me, ready to proceed with a purchase. Despite my initial inclination to refer them, my husband encouraged me to reactivate my full services. This proved to be the catalyst I needed. Since then, I have experienced a consistent and fulfilling flow of clientele, a testament to unexpected blessings.

We’ve been impressed with Denisha Mathews, REALTOR®, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
You know, what really drives me is helping people find that perfect place to call home. It’s more than just a transaction; it’s about helping them achieve a dream. And honestly, I feel like my background really helps with that. I’ve got this mix of sales, marketing, and relocation experience, which comes in handy in this crazy Houston market.

Plus, having lived abroad and then moved back, I get the whole relocation thing on a really personal level. And I’ve also worked with big corporations, helping their employees settle in here, so I know the ins and outs of that, too. I’m a tough negotiator, because I want my clients to get the absolute best deal. And I’m all about finding that property that checks all their boxes, the must-haves, you know?

Oh, and being married to an Air Force veteran, I’m very familiar with VA loans. It’s a whole different ballgame, and I love being able to guide those who’ve served.

But what I’m most proud of, honestly, is the experience I give my clients. I want everyone to feel like they’re getting the VIP treatment, no matter the price point. It’s about going above and beyond, making them feel like family, because that’s how I see them.

So, whether you’re a first-time buyer, dreaming of building your own place, investing, or just looking for that perfect existing home, I’d be absolutely honored to help you. Seriously, reach out. Let’s chat and make a plan. Let’s make your homeownership dreams a reality!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My faith is the heartbeat of everything I do. I truly believe this business, and really, my whole life, runs because of Jesus. So, when I’m working with clients, it’s not just about the houses and the paperwork. I’m praying for them, for their families, for their whole journey. It feels like a real privilege to do that.

And integrity? That’s non-negotiable for me. Building trust is everything. It’s the foundation of any good relationship, and especially in real estate, where it’s such a big, personal decision.

Plus, I just genuinely love people. I’m a total people person. Getting to know my clients, hearing their stories, and connecting them with others who share their passions? That’s what makes this job so fulfilling. It’s about building community, not just closing deals.
