Today we’d like to introduce you to Donte Powell

Hi Donte , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am Donte Powell the CEO who is the visionary behind 44 Project. The idea of 44 Project came about when Donte was trying to figure out how he could give back to the community that raised him, as well as bring awareness to the problems going on in the community, to better help those in need. Since starting 44 Project in June 2020, the success and support of his business has grown tremendously. Donte has many plans for the 44 Project brand, and plans to continue to expand his brand with his new upcoming spring/summer clothing line.
Projects are the strengthening portion of the ethics we all conjure up over time, delicately The Project we are on a mission for and why it is important. Projects develop inquisitive minds and we are always ready to find out what more do our sister and brothers are in need for?
After putting in research in the methodical approach will better help us from everyone’s vantage point in order to bring peace to the many Projects individuals start and finish daily.
Uniting the hearts of local Black-Owned Businesses, who seek to influence the African-American community by raising self-consciousness with the goal of promoting the growth of people of color, to end negative generational stereotypes, and the precursors to incarceration with the proffered of donations.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting the 44 project and handling graduating from The Texas Southern University, and becoming a father to Carter Powell, was a beautiful madness . I never ran from anything and always wanted to grab life by the horns . Being thrown off the bull didn’t bother me , what would bother me is if I missed a deadline or simple couldn’t get a customer exactly what they needed . I had only one return order and I must say that bothered my soul . Wearing all the hats to start a business is heavy an a lengthy road. Coming from Acres Homes you see things you wouldn’t normally see . During this process my father died Danny Powell. On July 2,2021 and after that my grandmother died on my Birthday 9/30/2021 . It left me with wonder of if I even still wanted to finish school and keep this clothing line going . Support from individuals who were happy to see me put out H44D on the map kept me going . Peers help motivate me back into the groove of things . I realized no mater how hard it will be . I want to leave a legacy for my son and children . So I put the H44D on my back and carried it with resilience and the directions from God. God deserves all the glory . He has kept me on days when I couldn’t seen my way out . I pride knowing I have a friend in God and that’s how I was able to get out of my funk . The last 5 years have been brutal , but it is worth every scar , tear and blood and sweat and had to sacrifice for this .

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about 44 Project ?
The 44 project was an idea that I came up with because I wanted to be a part of something that was bigger than myself .With gentrification starting in my neighborhood. I still wanted the people to believe and remember and know that acres homes was still alive and breathing us at the 44 project, we give back to school donations we partner with girls and boys clubs we sponsor children for going back to school haircuts beauticians setting us apart from any other neighborhood and any other organization that may do what we do they don’t do it like us I’m proud of the brand that is growing the last five years the notoriety I have received this and recognization from the individuals who live have residents who have homes inside of acres homes make me want to do it even more having individuals wear a piece of history and merchandise never gets old the smile that is on their faces when they receive their merchandise or they see the website or they see the organization for the community as a whole and collective makes me so proud. My brand is growing and I want all 50 states I want individuals to come to Houston Texas Acres Homes Texas just to buy T-shirt to say they have been to Houston and to that area of Houston is offering collaborative collective within the neighborhood awareness and cultivating the black community for our next generation. The services that we offer is commerce which is our acres homes T-shirts, our Acres Homes hats, as well as other clothing apparel .

Can you share something surprising about yourself?

I love family and I love things that collaboratively will keep us all together so we can all have an understanding, so we can spread the love of God. The thing about me is when I say something I’m going to do I do it. I don’t procrastinate. I don’t stop. I don’t wait on any man.
