Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jacque Colbert
Hi Dr. Jacque, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey is one of transformation, resilience, faith, grit, grace, and purpose. It began with a deep commitment to service—as a U.S. Army Medic and Urological Specialist—where I developed an unwavering foundation in discipline, integrity, and perseverance. Those values have carried me into the corporate world, where I have spent over three decades serving others through shaping key people strategies at some of the most influential technology companies, including Google, VMware, and Dell. Today, as Senior Director of Human Resources at Google, I focus on cultivating leadership, fostering equity, empowering others, and ensuring my team and the organization operate with clarity of purpose, strategy, and scalability while balancing the need to always be tender on people. After all, people are the heartbeat of everything we do.
Reflecting on where I am today, my journey took a deeply personal turn 17 years ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This experience profoundly reshaped my perspective on life and my true purpose. While Sipping PositiviTEA began as a business centered around small luxury wellness products, it evolved into Sipping PositiviTEA™, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering those affected by cancer, providing financial assistance, and advocating for equitable healthcare access and support.
Through every chapter of my journey, I have embraced the belief that authentic servant leadership is not measured by titles or accolades but by the lives impacted, the hope inspired, and meaningful change created. Whether in the corporate realm or through my nonprofit, my work is driven by a steadfast commitment to uplifting others and leaving a lasting legacy of empowerment, care, and compassion.
Amid all the hats that I have worn and continue to wear as an executive leader, nonprofit founder, mother, sister, friend, and more, I understand that true success also lies in wellness and balance. Toward this end, I prioritize movement, mindfulness, and moments of stillness and joy, knowing that staying active along with the aforementioned is not just a routine but a necessity for longevity and well-being. Whether through drumming, dancing, sitting in moments of reflection, or simply staying physically engaged, I ensure that each of these habits fuels my body and mind, allowing me to be fully present in every aspect of my life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! Life is not a straight line, and in fact, I am not sure that I would enjoy a life with zero variability. 🙂 Through the ups and downs that I have faced,I discovered that a strong mental dexterity or said differently, mindset plays a pivotal role in overcoming adversity. Some of the struggles I’ve endured and continue to endure center around the perpetual “chemo brain,” where my thoughts are not always fully connected due to my synapse not always connecting one thought to the next- trust me, this is never fun when you know what you want to say but struggle to get it out. The other is neuropathy in my hands and feet and in the initial phase of my journey, dealing with my own mortality. Every cancer patient is often challenged with the notion, “Will my annual mammography potentially be positive?” Those thoughts often try to creep in even when one may try to shut them down- It is one of the primary reasons that I embrace Sipping PositiviTEA as a practice because it is truly a verb that requires action.
You see, I firmly believe in the power of Sipping PositiviTEA™—not just as a nonprofit initiative but as a philosophy and a practical lifestyle rooted in actively embraced optimism, resilience, and hope. A positive mindset is not about ignoring hardships but about choosing to rise above them, focusing on what is possible, and empowering others to do the same.
This belief drives my commitment to supporting others in their journeys through mentorship, advocacy, or simply creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and supported. I understand that while obstacles are inevitable, how we face them can change the course of our story.
My greatest lesson? Obstacles do not define a person—how one chooses to obstacles can make a difference in the outcome. I choose to take a step back each time I’m dealing with a problem, small or large, and respond with grace, positive intention, and something tangible to change the outcome.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sipping PositiviTEA?
Sipping PositiviTEA™ is more than a nonprofit; it is a movement dedicated to eradicating breast and chest cancer through education, empowerment, and direct financial support. I founded Sipping PositiviTEA™ as more than just a nonprofit—it is a mission born from my own journey as a breast cancer survivor, corporate leader, and advocate. I know firsthand the emotional, physical, and financial toll that comes with a cancer diagnosis, and I am committed to ensuring that no one faces this journey alone. Breast, chest, and other cancers are sisterhoods that no woman desires to be a member of, yet if inducted, we are here to support you.
At Sipping PositiviTEA™, we believe that awareness is only the beginning—action is what creates change. That’s why we provide financial assistance, resources, and community-driven support to individuals affected by cancer. We offer educational resources, early detection guides, and tangible aid for those in need while engaging with compassion, advocacy, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting lives.
Purposefully, one of our most impactful initiatives is our Pink & Black Gala, an annual event that honors cancer thrivers and survivors while raising critical funds for individuals undergoing treatment. More than just a gala, it is a celebration of resilience, a testament to the power of community, and a moment to stand in solidarity with those fighting this battle. Funds raised from this signature event directly support financial aid programs, medical assistance, and essential resources for individuals facing economic hardships due to cancer.
What sets us apart?
We lead with authenticity and deep compassion. As a survivor, I intimately understand the challenges of this journey. Although I currently work as a full-time HR executive, my non-profit work is also always on in a full-time capacity- we cannot sleep on this job! We don’t just serve a cause—we serve people with compassion, dignity, and a deep commitment to making a difference.
Our brand is built on understanding, trust, impact, and hope. We take immense pride in the lives we have touched, the strength and hope we have restored, and the change we continue to drive. Sipping PositiviTEA™ is not just an organization—it is a movement.
A Final Thought on Hope
Through every challenge, every victory, and every step of this journey, I have come to understand that hope is not just a feeling—it is a force multiplier- a lifeline that can be a shared promise that none of us walk alone combined with an inner knowing to see better days ahead! Sipping PositiviTEA™ is not just about me; it is about all of us—those who have fought, those who continue to fight, and those who stand beside us in unwavering support. It is a testament that even in our most difficult moments, there is still light, hope, love, and so much life to live.
If there is one message I want to leave with everyone, it is this: Don’t you dare to give up! Never give up. No matter what obstacles stand in your way or how overwhelming the journey may seem, you are stronger than the struggle. Life will undoubtedly test us all, but we each have the power to push through, rise, rebuild, and keep moving forward.
Giving up is never an option. Acknowledging that many have lost the fight, I cannot be pretentious in saying it is because they gave up, NOT at all, for every journey is different. If you are reading this, I want you to know that you are not alone. Whether you’re facing illness, setbacks, personal challenges, or moments of doubt., There is a community, a purpose, and a future waiting for you beyond the struggle. I hope that through Sipping PositiviTEA™, our supporters, partners in progress, and my work in every facet of my life—I can remind others that resilience is within them, that healing is possible, and that together, we can create a world where no one faces their journey alone.
