Inspiring Conversations with Elizabeth Stevens of Notary Mentality Services, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Stevens.

Hi Elizabeth, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I first became a notary public in 1994, I didn’t imagine it would someday blossom into a full business. At the time, it was a simple need at work. Papers came across my desk requiring a notary, and I was the one trusted to step in. Soon after, it stretched beyond the office walls. Church members would ask for help. Family needed forms notarized. I became the person people turned to, not because I advertised it, but because they knew I would show up with care.

Those early years taught me something important: every signature carries a story. A family securing their home. A student stepping into opportunity. A loved one putting their final wishes in order. I didn’t just see ink on paper—I saw people depending on me to help them mark a milestone. That perspective became the heartbeat of my work. By 1999, I gave it words: “Stamping With You In Mind Since 1999.” It wasn’t just a motto; it was a way of doing business long before I even called it a business.

The journey from those humble beginnings to Notary Mentality Services, LLC wasn’t overnight. It was built one request at a time, one relationship at a time. Over the years, I pursued training and certifications, not just to keep up, but to stay ahead—broadening my reach into Estate planning, Apostilles, Loan Signings, Immigration forms, and eventually Remote Online Notarization. Each step forward came from listening to what people needed and asking myself, how can I serve them better?

Community has been my compass throughout it all. I’ve had the privilege of serving my church, my family, and my neighbors in Fort Bend County and beyond. I’ve joined professional organizations, connected with fellow notaries, and even taken on leadership roles—because growth is sweeter when it’s shared.

Now, more than thirty years later, I see the through line clearly. What began as a quiet act of service for coworkers, church members, and loved ones has become a trusted name in notarial work. Notary Mentality Services isn’t just a business—it’s the story of showing up, staying committed, and letting faithfulness turn into legacy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, the road has not always been smooth. There are others in the notary community that are thriving and make it look so easy, they’re my inspiration. I work hard to gain relationships with title companies, lawyers and attorney plus those individuals that want to leave a legacy for their families that would need the service that I provide through notary. Staying current in the state laws, staying visible on social media and marketing to those that would need my services is a struggle. In our times, now, you have to be willing to go digital to reach the market so this is an obstacle that I had to conquer. I’ve learned to get on Instagram and Facebook post pictures and stories related to my business.

I’ve learned to reach out and get help from others that have traveled my road and has successfully completed what I want to accomplished. Sometimes that can be a struggle itself to ask for help.

We’ve been impressed with Notary Mentality Services, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Wow, my childhood memories are of my mother who was a single mother working hard. Literally two jobs at a time to support herself and her four children. She was a protective mother even while at work. We weren’t allow outside until she came home. So my sisters and I would craft, fight, cook and clean before our mother came home. I never felt that I wasn’t safe and I enjoyed my childhood. When you don’t know that you’re in a struggle, you tend to strive well and overcome the things that try to hold you back. I was never told that I was poor going up. I was never told that I could not have my own business even if my beginnings started different from everyone around me. Our grandmother would cook huge meals for the holidays from SCRATCH! Cakes and other desserts that a magazine could not hold, specular. I’m still friends with my childhood friend, our families are like blood families. I’ve always introduce them as my brothers and that was it.

My childhood did end at the age of 16 when I had my first child. My mother was disappointed but she was supportive. I was able to complete school with her help. With this I was still not told that I could not be a business owner. My mother was my guideline how I presented myself on a job. Because I saw her daily dress professionally and present herself that way to those on her job encouraged me to follow her guidance even though she did not know of the impact she had made on me. In the 1960’s and 1970’s black women were not seen in the corporate work place. But my mother work her way through many obstacles, that are still present today, to support her family and teach how to conduct yourself despite the walls, she kick them down in a way that no one knew what hit them until she had made a difference and a strong impact.
