Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Mock.
Hi Emily, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Hello! I am a native Houstonian and currently live in Kingwood. My husband Garrett and I have three amazing children, ages 14, 11 and 10. I am a local Real Estate Agent. Garrett played in the MLB for the Washington Nationals, and he is now in Construction Management in Houston.
Years ago, we knew God was calling us to do something for children in need. It is a passion we have had in our hearts. After several mission trips to other countries, we saw poverty like we never knew existed. On a trip to Panama in 2018 God started stirring my heart to step in for the children there. Seeing and holding malnourished babies was gut wrenching and I was never the same after that trip. I knew God was telling us to start there in Panama by meeting the immediate need, which was nourishment for these children. We started a 501c3 nonprofit organization in 2018. We tried to adopt a little boy that same year from Panama and it ended up not working out. We were willing to do anything “for the one” little boy- and that is where the name of our organization came from. For the One International was born!
Jesus calls us all to go out and rescue the one in need. In Luke 15 He tells the story, “There once was a shepherd with a hundred lambs, but one of his lambs wandered away and was lost. So the shepherd left the ninety-nine lambs out in the open field and searched in the wilderness FOR THE ONE lost lamb. He didn’t stop until he finally found it. With exuberant joy, he raised it up, placed it on his shoulders, and carried it back with cheerful delight!”
For the One currently funds two feeding centers in the San Blas Islands of Panama. Two more locations will begin this year in 2022. We feed over 250 malnourished children every day. These children are mainly between 1-4 years old. The centers have local people running the operation, cooks to prepare the food and many to help serve. We have seen these children get healthier since coming to the centers. We also partner with missionaries who are on the ground there helping the families by teaching agriculture and farming.
My grandparents, Rev. John and Yvonne Brady, started going to Panama in the 1950’s. Then my uncle, Pastor Johnny Brady, started going as well. It’s an honor to follow in their footsteps. My grandfather recently passed away. We will see the ripple effect he has made for generations to come.
I am a licensed Texas Real Estate Agent and work for Compass Real Estate in Houston. I absolutely love helping people find the ideal home for their family. It is an honor and privilege to get to serve families and guide them in their real estate transaction. I aim to be the calm voice during a busy time in their lives. I give a portion of all commission I earn to For the One International.
A piece of this story that I am so proud of is the Freedom Key Necklace. I had a vivid vision of seeing Jesus wearing a key necklace and unlocking the hearts of people. They were free in an instant when His key entered their heart. He gave me a clear assignment to partner with a jewelry company to create this necklace and bring the vision to life. I knew that this was supposed to be another stream of income for For the One. God led me to Golden Thread Jewelry Company in Houston. They partnered with me on this vision and did an incredible job! The proceeds of this necklace go directly to For the One. It has been amazing to see how this necklace has impacted lives with its meaning and the story behind it, while also helping us bring in a stream of income to the nonprofit.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with anything new you start in life there is a learning and growing process. There has been trial and error throughout the last few years as our organization has grown, and in running a nonprofit organization. The biggest lesson I have learned is to keep moving forward. Pioneering something new may not be easy but it will be worth it. You will learn and grow along the way. Say yes to what God has put on your heart, and the details will fall into place.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about For the One International?
I am proud of For the One International as we continue our work helping children in need! By donating to our organization, your donation goes directly to the children we feed and the operation of the feeding centers. $5.33 feeds one child for a month! I can’t wait to see what God has in store for the future as we continue to grow and reach more children.
My goal is that the nonprofit- and everything I do- points people to Jesus. He radically changed my life and made me new. He is the truth, peace and key to true freedom! John 3:16
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Having mentors is a must. In every area of my life- marriage, parenting, my faith, the nonprofit, my real estate business- I seek to gain wisdom from mentors in each of those areas. My mentors are people who have knowledge and insight in those areas, and can point me in the right direction. Gaining wisdom from those who have blazed trails before me is crucial to my growth! I encourage people to have a mentor that you can be real with, vulnerable with, and allow them to speak truth into your life.
