Inspiring Conversations with Faith Forero of Faith Therapy and Wellness PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Forero.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I remember on the first day of kindergarten, my teacher asked us to write down what we wanted to be when we grew up. Without hesitation, I wrote “superhero,” inspired by my deep obsession with comic book characters. But when my teacher told me it wasn’t a real profession and I needed to choose something else, I felt my first reality check.

Flash forward thirteen years, and I stepped onto a college campus filled with a mix of nerves and wide-eyed enthusiasm. I had every intention of studying biomedical science and becoming a dentist. I never expected a general education requirement to change the course of my life—but that’s exactly what happened with Psychology 101.

What started as a general curiosity about human behavior quickly became a deep fascination with the brain, our emotions, and the invisible threads that connect us all. Each lecture felt less like a class and more like a calling. I can’t explain it exactly, but I knew in my gut that I was right where I was meant to be. By the end of the semester, I had changed my major, enrolled in every psychology class I could, and began reading self-help books in my free time. I didn’t know it then, but I was already taking the first steps toward becoming a therapist.

During my undergraduate years, I volunteered at a child advocacy center, supporting survivors of child abuse. After graduation, I got my first job in the field—as a tech at an inpatient substance use treatment center, making $12 an hour. I was stepping into the professional world to work on the front lines of rehabilitation.

Working at a drug rehab was like riding a roller coaster blindfolded—equal parts heartwarming, hilarious, and heartbreaking. Every day felt like life or death, and I found myself being pulled in deeper. It wasn’t long before I applied to graduate school to earn my master’s in social work.

Looking back, maybe it was the comfort of chaos—growing up in a family shaped by addiction and mental illness—or maybe it was the ache of not being able to save the people closest to me. Either way, I went on to work at three more rehabs and several psychiatric hospitals.

In my own healing journey, the chaos I once craved has been replaced with stability. I’ve developed stronger boundaries, more self-compassion, and a deep sense of self-worth. The road wasn’t easy. Graduate school was grueling—a full course load, a full-time job, and a full-time internship—but I made it through.

Today, I run a thriving private practice. I’m a mom and I have a beautiful, supportive family. I mentor other therapists in the field. I get to help people every day—showing up for them, for myself, and for the ones who couldn’t.

I feel honored to witness people’s stories—raw, vulnerable, and real. For every tear, there’s a laugh. For every heartbreak, a hug. And for every deep conversation where something clicks, there’s the quiet certainty that this work matters—even when it’s messy, even when it hurts.

I get to celebrate wins that ripple across generations. I watched “Connor” go from jumping from one relationship to another, unable to be vulnerable, to falling in love, getting married, and now trying for his first child. I saw “Kayla” go from skipping school to get high—completely in denial—to being honest with her parents, celebrating three years sober, and earning a full ride to college. I witnessed “Victoria,” who survived being kidnapped and abused in childhood, find safety in her body again and build a trusting relationship. And I saw “Diane” and “Michael” rebuild a marriage after addiction and infidelity, learning to forgive and love each other again. These aren’t their real names, but these are their very real stories.

I may not have Wonder Woman’s superhuman strength, lasso of truth, or indestructible bracelets. But as a therapist, I have patience, endless empathy, unconditional positive regard, and an unwavering desire to help heal. I don’t wear a cape—but I couldn’t have chosen a more fitting career.

And I know—without a doubt—I’ve become the person my five-year-old self used to dream about.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Learning how to set boundaries and leave work at work. When you’re a therapist and an empath it’s hard not to care about your clients on a deeper level. Yes, your therapist thinks about you outside of session. I had to learn how to have a healthy work/life balance because they don’t teach you that in grad school. Ironically, while mental health agencies often preach self-care to clients, they rarely create environments that support their employees in doing the same.
