Today we’d like to introduce you to Frederied Rivera.
Frederied , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey in healthcare began in 2008 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where I started working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Driven by a deep passion for patient care and professional growth, I continued my education and earned my Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), eventually transitioning into the fast-paced environment of the emergency room. Determined to expand my knowledge and clinical expertise, I went on to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
In 2014, I made a life-changing decision to move to Florida. At the time, I did not speak English, which presented one of the greatest challenges of my life. However, through perseverance, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication, I committed myself to learning the language. For an entire year, I balanced work with daily visits to the public library from Monday through Friday, fully immersing myself in the process of learning English. That experience not only strengthened my communication skills but also reinforced my resilience and determination.
After gaining confidence in the language, I pursued my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Ana G. Méndez University. As I advanced in my career, I expanded my clinical experience in primary care and neurology, now practicing from a broader perspective as a provider.
With a continued commitment to excellence, I enrolled in Chamberlain University to pursue my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). During this journey, I made another pivotal life decision. In May 2024, I moved to Texas with my husband, leaving behind everything we had built in Florida to start a new chapter in The Woodlands. After settling into our new home, I resumed my doctoral studies and successfully completed my DNP in December 2025.
Shortly after earning my doctoral degree, I knew it was time to take the next step one that reflected my vision, passion, and independence. In February 2026, that vision became a reality when my husband supported and I opened Everest ThriveCare, a primary care clinic in The Woodlands, Texas. This milestone represents not only the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance but also the beginning of a new journey dedicated to serving the community through compassionate, high-quality care.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. My journey has been filled with challenges that tested my resilience, determination, and commitment to my goals. One of the biggest obstacles I faced was moving to Florida in 2014 without knowing how to speak English. Adjusting to a new environment while trying to build a professional career in healthcare was extremely difficult. I dedicated an entire year to learning the language, going to the public library every day after work, which required significant sacrifice and discipline.
In addition to the language barrier, balancing work, education, and personal life was often overwhelming. Advancing from LPN to ADN, then to BSN, MSN, and eventually pursuing my DNP required years of persistence, long hours, and financial and emotional sacrifices.
Another major challenge was relocating again in 2024, leaving behind stability in Florida to start over in Texas. Building a new life, continuing my doctoral studies, and eventually opening my own clinic all came with uncertainty and risk.
Despite these struggles, each challenge became an opportunity for growth. They shaped who I am today and strengthened my passion for providing care and serving my community.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is growing up in Puerto Rico, surrounded by family, culture, and a strong sense of community. I especially remember the simple moments spending time with loved ones, sharing meals, and enjoying the warmth and joy that came from being together. Those experiences shaped my values, teaching me the importance of connection, compassion, and caring for others.
Looking back, those early memories played a big role in who I am today. They inspired my passion for helping people and created the foundation for my journey into healthcare, where caring for others feels like an extension of the values I learned as a child.
