Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Guerrero
Hi Gabriela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got started in February 2020 just when COVID was starting. Everything was shutting down, we couldn’t go anywhere. Facebook live selling became a thing. In my small town a lot of small businesses began to do live selling with jewelry and accessories. At the time I was trying to get out of postpartum depression after my first born (which I didn’t know I was battling until after the fact), and felt like I needed to do something to overcome my depression. I am a very shy and introverted person. So the thought of getting in front of the camera and do live selling, seemed out of reach. But I do like to set myself challenges, and figure it out somehow. Once I set my mind on something I won’t stop. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and go for it.
Out of my garage is where it all started. I would do Facebook lives once a week, and shoppers would buy through the Facebook live. My husband and dad built me displays to hold my inventory. And that was the beginning of a new adventure. After COVID was becoming a thing of the past, and things were somewhat going back to normal, people even started to come shop in person in my small garage. I first started by selling only jewelry and accessories. Then with time and support from my customers my small business grew into a full women’s boutique. Offering women clothing, accessories/jewelry, footwear and much more. I started taking over my home with all kinds of inventory. That’s when I asked my husband and dad to build me a she shed to keep all of our inventory. I drew out a plan on how I wanted the layout and they did the magic and built it from scratch.
In April of 2021 I signed up for vendor markets, and Gaby’s Glitzy Shop became a mobile boutique. It was a start of a new era for my business. I loved the experience of doing markets, it gave me an opportunity to engage with new and returning customers in person. Doing markets gave me a sense of a mini store front, which I loved and keep enjoying. Now don’t get me wrong, doing markets is a lot of hard work. Prepping before, packing, unpacking, and everything else it entails. But it is something I really enjoy. We do markets in Brazoria County and Houston surrounding areas.
My family has always been my biggest support system and is a major reason why my small business is still going strong. I also have always been blessed with friends, family, co-workers, and strangers who have all supported this small dream and have enhanced the growth of my small business. Which I will forever be grateful for! A small business appreciates any and all kinds of support. Doesn’t necessarily always have to be a purchase, it can be as simple as a share on social media or referring us to other friends or family members.
I am currently now a mom of three beautiful children, a full-time teacher, wife, and small business owner. I love owning my small business which has become something I had never imagined and saved my mental health.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner has definitely been a learning experience and it is definitely not an easy road. Having many roles in my life sometimes can get tough. There is never enough time in the day to get things done. But I just try to take it day by day. There is always something new to learn in the business life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Gaby’s Glitzy Shop?
Gaby’s Glitzy Shop is a women’s boutique who offers clothing (tops, dresses, jeans), jewelry/accessories, footwear, and other items. We like to offer all the bright, glittery, and colorful things. We offer a variety of items to put together the perfect outfit for the day. From just a casual tee for running errands or cute dresses to wear to work. We are a size inclusive boutique who tries their best to offer sizing small through 3X. Which we always have happy customers to know that we offer a variety of sizes in clothing.
We are most proud of when customers come into our booth during markets because something caught their eye and makes them a happy customer with the items they have purchased. It’s always heart filling when they compliment our items.
The goal for our business is to make it a safe space for women to feel confident or just simply happy with whatever item they have selected. Or if they simply need a friend or someone to talk to, we want to be there in any way we can. Life is short and beautiful! Enjoy it and be happy! Wear the outfit and feel confident.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is building relationships with my customers and offering a safe space. The birthing of my business was what helped me get out of a depression. My business is my mental safe space where I get to interact with others and help them in some form or way. Whether it might be by offering the outfit that is going to give them the boost of confidence or by having a lending ear. Life is short and beautiful and we must enjoy it everyday!
