Hi Giang, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Dr. Veral Patel and I met in dental school at Tufts University in Boston. We became close friends pretty quickly, spending long nights studying, joking around to stay awake, and talking about what kind of dentists we wanted to be one day. Even back then, we both knew we wanted to create something of our own, something that felt modern, genuine, and completely focused on the patient experience.
After graduation, we packed up and moved to Houston together. We didn’t have family here, just a shared vision and a lot of determination. We worked side by side in a group practice, learning the ropes, building confidence, and figuring out what kind of environment truly brings out the best in both the team and the patients. Those early days taught us what mattered most, slowing things down, listening to people, and creating a space where patients actually feel seen and cared for.
That’s how Elevate Dentistry was born. We wanted to bring a fresh, human approach to dentistry, one that blends advanced technology with an atmosphere that feels comfortable and uplifting. Every detail of the office, from the design to the way our team interacts with patients, was built with intention. It’s been a wild ride filled with challenges, laughs, and a lot of late nights, but seeing Elevate grow and knowing we built it from the ground up together still feels surreal.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. The road to opening Elevate Dentistry was anything but smooth. What started as an exciting vision quickly turned into months of navigating city permits, unexpected construction delays, and the constant feeling of racing against deadlines. There were times when it felt like every step forward came with another obstacle, whether it was permits getting rejected for small details, shipments arriving late, or discovering that something had to be redone after it was already built.
There were nights we would walk through the half-finished space, surrounded by drywall dust and exposed wires, just trying to picture what it would look like when it was finally complete. It was exhausting and at times overwhelming, but those moments reminded us why we started. We would talk about the patients we would soon be helping and the type of energy we wanted the space to have.
Looking back, those challenges made opening day so much more meaningful. Every inspection passed, every wall painted, and every piece of equipment finally in place felt like a small victory. It taught us patience, resilience, and how to lean on each other when things got tough. Seeing the finished office now, filled with patients and laughter, makes every long night worth it.
