Inspiring Conversations with Hamilton Rucker of Law Office of Hamilton Rucker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hamilton Rucker.

Hamilton, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a native Houstonian. I grew up in the League City/Clear Lake area and attended Clear Creek High School. After high school i was recruited to play D1 Basketball and I later went on to play basketball at St. Bonaventure University and the University of Texas at Arlington. After the end of my basketball eligibility I came back to Houston and graduated from the University of Houston. Before attending law school I worked as a real estate agent and business development for an engineering firm. I was accepted to Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University and shortly before starting I spent some time traveling in Brazil and latin america. During law school I was able to clerk at the City of Houston legal department and also clerked for a firm handling commercial litigation. Fortunately I was able to finish law school in 2.5 years and opened my law practice the day I passed the bar.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, which has helped me navigate all the challenges that I have had to face in business. As a attorney a lot of our job is about being professional problem solvers. I have had to endure uncertainty at times. How will the economy hold up? How do we reach more potential clients? How do we help solve this clients issue? Those are the struggles that we have had to deal with the last 17 years, in building the law practice. But those are struggles I think everyone can relate to and understand. I’m an optimistic person, and I do believe that every struggle and obstacle is really an opportunity to improve and learn. So, I really don’t try to focus on the rough times or even let them hold me down for too long.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Law Office of Hamilton Rucker?
I launched the Rucker Law Firm in 2009 and we are now known as the Law Office of Hamilton Rucker. We handle real estate transactions and real estate litigation, along with insurance litigation and construction defect cases. Over the last 10 years we have worked on dozens of multi-million dollar construction and real estate matters on behalf of our government clients. Some our clients have included the City of Houston, Harris County, METRO, Houston Community College, McAllen ISD, Harlandale ISD, Zapata County and may more. We have also had a lot of great success for our private clients in various construction and real estate matters. As Houston continues to grow we see more litigation and real estate disputes from our residential clients. Texas law can be difficult for our clients to maneuver as statutes like Residential Construction Liability Act (RCLA) create a lot of traps for homeowners experiencing construction defects, and that is where we are really able to assist clients facing this problems.

In the last couple years we launched “The Buyer’s Lawyer”, which leverages my 22 years as a real estate agent. We offer lower cost fees for homebuyers and make accessing a real estate attorney for your real estate matters easily accessible and transparent.

Our focus is on offering services to our clients that actually make your case a priority. As someone that is a lifelong Houstonian, I take our role in the community as a serious commitment and one that we hope to maintain for many more years.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up in League City and Clear Lake area was a great experience for me. Our community was diverse and very welcoming. My family always made sure to give me the love and support to try new things and exposed me to a range of activities like nature and science programs at Armand Bayou, summer camps at Rice University and the local museums. But sports were a major part of my childhood. I competed in swimming until middle school, then my love for basketball really took off. I was able to play basketball at a pretty high level in high school and college, and that opened up a lot of opportunities for me to travel and learn about life.
