Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamaal Roy.
Hi Jamaal, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I spent my life helping people, giving. I’ve always been this way, whether it be through creating music or designing clothing. People gravitate toward quality and character, but after a while, you have to ask yourself what else?
In October of last year, I made the decision to pursue a license in Real Estate. By February of this year, I was licensed and found a new home at Century 21.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not smooth at all! I still work a regular job to pay bills. Clothing design took a back seat, but music was already in the works, so I had to at least finish what I started there. I had to juggle a lot during those few months. The workload, in terms of studying, was exhausting. I found myself bringing materials with me to my main job so I could cram in as much in as possible.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Century 21 is a huge name in the real estate industry. I went in for an interview with no expectations and walked out proud of myself. A year ago, I wouldn’t have believed anyone who told me I’d be a realtor today. Now that I’m here and have taken in so much, I realize that my being drawn to helping others has only been magnified. My time with children, teens, adults, elderly, and disabled individuals gives me a unique perspective. My time creating has allowed me to find joy in bringing joy to other people. Yaat Club has not gone anywhere, and the musician in me has not faded one bit. If anything, my toolbox just got a little bigger by taking this step.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I present as confident all the time, but they don’t ever catch the moments leading up to the moment that matters. Those are the times when I question if I’m in the right place or if I should turn back. The world gives you 60 seconds to feel those feelings before it swallows you up, so at 61 seconds, I have to suck it up and keep moving.
