Inspiring Conversations with Jeremy Seiley of That 1 Painter North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Seiley.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I went to college at Lamar University and received my BBA in Marketing. While in college I joined the TX National Guard (2000). Shortly after graduating, my unit was called to active duty. I spent the next few years between home and Iraq. Since we were deploying so frequently, I was not able to establish myself as a business professional. I had a wife and two daughters by this time. As I approached the end of my military career (2010), I started working at ExxonMobil (2009). Being from the Houston market, we all knew growing up that you can make an honest living in the plants if you are willing to work long hard hours. Since I’d deployed several times, working shift wasn’t too bad. I worked there for 13+ years until the entrepreneur spirit came back to me. My family is in a good financial situation, and I can now chase my dreams.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Besides the delayed start from military deployments, the challenge is building the company brand and establishing a reputation within our community. We’re using every avenue that we know of to make real connections with our neighbors.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
That 1 Painter offers professional painter services, providing 18 different services. We uphold unmatched standards of workmanship that are certain to deliver the most excellent quality… and generate a whole lot of joy. Plus: No job is too big or too small. We strive to be the best house guest you’ve ever had. When providing you with one of our services, we want you to feel like you’ve invited a friend over.

What makes us most proud is giving back to the community. As a company, once a quarter we partner with Sherwin Williams to paint a project for FREE for a family in need. Recently we were called to a home by a young lady. When arriving we realized she was underage, but an adult was home, so we listened to what she had in mind. When discussing general pricing for the project, she went to her piggy bank to see if she had enough. It was then that we realized she wasn’t just discussing how she wanted to paint her room but was coordinating the whole thing herself. Since my partner and I both have daughters her age, we could not accept money from her. We personally painted her room ourself.

We provide all commercial/residential painting and staining services (exterior, interior, cabinets, and fences), along with sell ready. Our sell-ready (or make-ready) services take you beyond painting to rehab, maintenance, and pretty much everything else you’ll need to prepare your property for market. If you’re a homeowner or investor with a laundry list
of maintenance projects, or repairs, crowding your “to do” and stalling your sales, just let us know! We’re happy to bring your property from “fixer-upper” to “prime real estate” anytime.

How do you define success?
This is an interesting question. Everyone has a different idea of what success looks like. My vision of success is accomplishing my goals to have more time for my family and I to have quality time together. This question always reminds me of “The Parable of the Mexican Fisherman”. In the end, I don’t need all the riches of the world, just enough to enjoy the small things with my family and friends.
