Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Fultz
Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a nurse by trade, but I have always been creative and I needed that outlet. I have wanted to create a brand for a long time, but I was paralyzed by indecision and not feeling committed to a certain style of clothes or selling the same design as every other boutique.
In 2019, my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Mesothelioma. When the mass was initially found she was wearing a shirt that says “Fear is a Liar”. It immediately became an anthem throughout her battle, and even after her heavenly victory it continues to be a mantra in my life. She was an entrepreneur, a real Girl Boss, full of life with a closet full of shoes.
She taught me to be fierce, to love God and people, and to never take life too seriously or miss an opportunity to karaoke. Before she passed she told me, “Don’t wait to live.” She was only 45, and it terrified me but also inspired me to stop putting off the things I truly want for myself. So, Billie Co. was born.
I wanted to create a lifestyle brand that had meaning behind every piece.
While this brand is my own style, her legacy continues to influence me and the designs in this shop.
“For what it’s worth… it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you’ve never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.” ―― F. Scott Fitzgerald
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is anything in life a smooth road?
It’s difficult to start any new business. It’s terrifying, really. I’m still working a full-time nursing job and running my business, which is quite the task in itself. In the beginning of May 2024, our property flooded due to the dam releases and we a lot, including my office which took in over a foot of water. Luckily my heat press and computer made it out, but a lot of the other stuff I had to throw out. It’s hard to feel like you have to ‘start over’, but we readjusted and we are making it work in the meantime.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Billie Co. is a woman-owned lifestyle brand based in Conroe, TX. I create meaningful apparel for women, men and youth. Billie Co. is exclusively online for now and you can shop at ShopBillie.co
What I’m most proud of brand wise is my support of other small businesses. Every month I showcase a new small business on my website and put their business cards in my packaging. I think it’s so important to support each other and help each other grow.
What does success mean to you?
Success is subjective. To me, being happy and being able to do more of what I love with people I love is success. It’s not monetary to me.
