Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Tang.
Hi Joanne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My passion for the beauty industry began at an early age. My parents owned a hair salon in Vietnam, where I spent my teenage years helping with the business. Eventually, I took over the salon, gaining valuable hands-on experience and developing a deep appreciation for serving clients.
After moving to the United States in 1998, I began my career as a nail technician. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to open and operate multiple nail salons throughout the Houston area, continually growing both personally and professionally.
Today, Nails by Yen is my newest venture and a reflection of my years of experience, dedication, and passion for the industry. I look forward to continuing to grow the business while providing exceptional service and creating a welcoming experience for every client.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has not always been smooth. Like many small business owners, I have faced challenges along the way, from adapting to a new country and building a career from the ground up to navigating the ups and downs of running a business. There were times when long hours, financial pressures, and balancing work with family responsibilities tested my determination.
The COVID-19 pandemic was one of the most difficult periods, bringing unexpected uncertainty and forcing businesses across the industry to adapt quickly. Despite these obstacles, each challenge taught me valuable lessons about resilience, hard work, and the importance of providing excellent customer service.
Every experience has helped shape who I am as a business owner. Looking back, I am grateful for the challenges because they made me stronger and motivated me to continue growing. Today, I take pride in creating a welcoming environment where clients feel valued and leave feeling confident and cared for.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Nails by Yen, our goal is to provide more than just beautiful nails—we strive to create a relaxing, welcoming experience where every client feels valued and cared for. With decades of experience in the beauty industry, we are committed to delivering high-quality services using the latest techniques, quality products, and the highest standards of cleanliness and professionalism.
We offer a full range of beauty services, including manicures, pedicures, acrylic and gel enhancements, dipping powder, nail art, facials, and waxing. We also provide mobile services for clients who prefer the convenience of being pampered at home or another location. In addition, we cater to large groups and special occasions, making us a great choice for birthday parties, bridal celebrations, corporate events, and other gatherings where guests can relax and enjoy a fun, spa-like experience together.
What sets us apart is the relationships we build with our clients. Many of our customers have been with us for years because they know they will receive consistent quality, honest service, and personal attention every time they visit. We treat our clients like family and genuinely care about helping them look and feel their best.
I am especially proud of the reputation we have built through hard work, integrity, and word-of-mouth referrals. As a locally owned small business, every client who walks through our doors means a great deal to us. My goal is to continue growing Nails by Yen while maintaining the friendly, welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service that our clients have come to know and trust.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time in my parents’ hair salon in Vietnam. As a teenager, I helped them after school and during busy days. Back then, it just felt like helping my family, but those moments taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and taking pride in serving others.
