Hi Joshua “JR The Jeweler”, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started LuxHouse Fine Jewelry in 2022, specializing in creating custom jewelry for clients in the Houston area. Our business is unique in that we handle all aspects of the jewelry-making process in-house, from the initial CAD design and casting to diamond setting and final polishing. We pride ourselves on involving our clients in each step, ensuring they understand and appreciate the craftsmanship behind their custom pieces.
My passion for jewelry began in my childhood in Northern California, in a small town called Lodi. Without any family in the jewelry business, I had to carve my own path. During high school, I met a jeweler who allowed me to shadow him and learn the trade. This experience fueled my dedication, and I continued to explore jewelry-making while attending college.
After graduation, I moved to the Los Angeles area and worked in live sound for concerts at The Grammy Museum. Although I took a break from jewelry during this time, it remained my passion. After getting married to my wonderful wife, Jahnika Rieger, and having three amazing children—our sons, Jaxson and Isaiah, and our daughter, Amya—we decided to move to Houston, Texas, in 2020 to provide better opportunities for our kids.
The COVID-19 pandemic gave me the chance to rekindle my passion for jewelry. With more downtime, I focused on building LuxHouse Fine Jewelry, aiming to create a legacy that I could one day pass on to my children. The journey has involved long days and nights, but seeing the joy on our clients’ faces when they receive their one-of-a-kind pieces makes it all worthwhile. I’m excited to see where this journey will take us in the future.

The road to establishing LuxHouse Fine Jewelry has not been smooth. I had to carve my own path and find my own connections, which was no easy feat. The jewelry business is challenging, and there are many people who try to take advantage if you don’t do your research.
Starting out, I had no family background in the industry, so I had to learn everything from scratch. This meant seeking out mentors, like the jeweler I met during high school who allowed me to shadow him and learn the trade. Even with this guidance, I encountered numerous hurdles.
One major struggle was building a network in the Houston area after moving from Los Angeles. Establishing trust and credibility in a new market took time and perseverance. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic presented its own set of challenges, with disruptions in supply chains and difficulties in meeting clients face-to-face.
There were times when I faced setbacks due to dishonest individuals in the industry. These experiences taught me the importance of thorough research and due diligence. Despite these obstacles, my dedication to the craft and commitment to delivering exceptional custom pieces kept me going.
Every challenge has been a learning opportunity, and overcoming these struggles has made the successes even more rewarding. The journey has been filled with long days and nights, but the satisfaction of seeing our clients’ joy and the growth of LuxHouse Fine Jewelry makes it all worthwhile.

My advice for anyone just starting out is to never give up and keep working hard. The journey is not easy, and there will be many challenges along the way, but if you truly love what you are doing, it is worth the effort. When I first started, I had to carve my own path and find my own connections, often learning through trial and error. It’s important to do your research and be cautious, as the jewelry business, like many others, has its share of pitfalls and people who may try to take advantage of you.
