Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Wright.
Hi Katy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a dreamer. Not the “lie in a field of wildflowers and stare at the sky” kind—more like the “big plans, big ideas, but also big hesitation” kind. I always wanted to own my own business, but taking that kind of risk? Terrifying. So, I played it safe.
Meanwhile, my papa was out there actually making things happen—literally building garbage truck parts in Southern California while my grammy helped run the behind-the-scenes of the business. I got to watch them work, witnessing firsthand what it meant to create something from nothing. And yet, despite the inspiration, I stayed in my comfort zone, convincing myself that my “dream job” as an education coach was enough.
Spoiler alert: It wasn’t.
After 10 years in education and one particularly painful experience, I hit the eject button on my life. Sold my house. Disappeared. Went full existential crisis mode. The goal? To figure out why the same frustrating patterns kept popping up in my life, who I actually wanted to become, and, more importantly, what it would take to get there. (Answer: a lot of discipline, a lot of grace, and way more self-reflection than I thought possible.)
One thing has always been clear, though—I love helping people. So, as I was piecing myself back together, I needed to find a way to keep doing that without sacrificing my sanity, freedom, or potential for financial growth.
Cue real estate.
As part of this journey, I got the opportunity to work with Molly McGinty at Molly Sold It. Molly, a close family friend, initially needed some help scheduling routine social media posts. But she had built a life and business that I absolutely admired and desired, so the chance to learn from her? No-brainer. What started as simple social media scheduling quickly evolved into me handling all of her behind-the-scenes systems and marketing. Molly has been an integral part of my journey, showing me firsthand what’s possible in real estate when you build something with intention and heart.
Now, I’m on my way to getting licensed, building my business, and creating a future that actually excites me. Along the way, I’ve become the kind of person who straps on a weighted vest and voluntarily goes for long walks. (Who am I?) I’ve also been lucky enough to have some truly incredible people in my corner—people I’m endlessly grateful for because, let’s be real, no one reinvents themselves in a vacuum.
And while this chapter is already shaping up to be a good one, I know the best parts of my story are still ahead.
So, stay tuned—because I’m just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So, fun fact: I used to think I had a pretty solid growth mindset. I read Carol Dweck’s work, nodded along enthusiastically, and fully believed in the power of effort and learning. But apparently, it’s a lot easier to have a growth mindset when you’re telling other people to believe in themselves. When it came to me? Oh boy. Turns out, my confidence in my abilities was more of a “fixed mindset with a good PR team.”
See, when I finally took the leap into entrepreneurship, I had to confront some deeply ingrained thoughts like:
-“Who do I think I am?” (A question that should never be on repeat in your brain when you’re trying to sell yourself as a business owner.)
– “What if I have nothing valuable to offer?” (Because somehow, a decade of expertise and a lifetime of experience didn’t count in my own head.)
– “What if I fail?” (Classic.)
And perfectionism? Oh, she was LOUD. Every decision felt like it had to be the exact right one, which meant I spent days agonizing over the best CRM, the perfect email template, and whether or not my business name had the right *vibe*.
Then came analysis paralysis, which is like perfectionism’s clingy best friend. Every time I needed to take action, my brain decided to throw me a full Canva presentation of all possible outcomes, ensuring that doing nothing felt like the safest bet.
Oh, and let’s talk about focus. I would sit down with every intention of working on my business, only to somehow end up knee-deep in researching productivity hacks instead. Because obviously, I needed to optimize my workflow before I actually did any work. (10/10 logic.)
And then there was my biggest mindset shift: moving from “I need motivation” to “just stick to the plan.”
For the longest time, I thought I had to feel like doing something in order to do it. Spoiler alert: motivation is flaky. It’s that friend who hypes you up for a workout but then bails last minute because they “forgot they had plans.” The real MVP? Discipline. And let me tell you, getting to a place where I stopped waiting to want to do something and just did it anyway? That changed everything.
Despite all these mental gymnastics, I kept going. Because at the end of the day, the only way to build something great is to actually build it—messy thoughts, occasional meltdowns, and all.
And honestly? I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. (Except maybe a little less anxiety throughout the process. But hey, we’re growing.)
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In the fast-paced world of real estate, success isn’t just about selling homes—it’s about keeping the entire operation running like a well-oiled machine. That’s where Rheo VA comes in.
Rheo VA is the behind-the-scenes powerhouse that helps realtors stay in their zone of genius—building relationships and closing deals—while the administrative chaos is handled with precision. It’s a business growth engine, designed to create repeat and referral business while giving realtors the freedom to focus on what they do best.
So, What Exactly Does Rheo VA Do?
Think of it as the ultimate real estate support system. Realtors wear a hundred different hats, and Rheo VA makes sure they don’t drop any by managing:
-Administrative Tasks – The not-so-glamorous but absolutely essential stuff: email management, scheduling, transaction coordination, and document organization.
-Social Media & Brand Alignment – Because in today’s market, who you are online matters just as much as who you are in person. Rheo VA ensures consistency across all platforms, so realtors stay top of mind.
-Database Management – Keeping track of clients, following up, and ensuring that past buyers and sellers become future referrals.
-Systems & Processes – Streamlining the backend so that realtors can work smarter, not harder.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Ask any entrepreneur what the most important factor in their success is, and you’ll get a variety of answers—hard work, strategy, maybe even a little luck. But for me, the foundation of it all comes down to one thing: mindset.
Mindset impacts every facet of my day-to-day life. It determines the type of people I surround myself with, whether I choose to throw in the towel or keep going, and how I show up for myself and my business every single day.
In the world of entrepreneurship, setbacks aren’t if—they’re when. There are days when motivation is nowhere to be found, when perfectionism whispers that nothing is quite ready yet, and when the temptation to scrap everything and start over feels all too real. But this is where mindset makes or breaks a business.
For me, cultivating the right mindset means embracing discipline over motivation, progress over perfection, and resilience over doubt. It means actively choosing to show up even when it’s uncomfortable, surrounding myself with people who challenge and uplift her, and seeing obstacles as opportunities to grow instead of reasons to quit.
