Today we’d like to introduce you to KC Gifford IV
Hi KC, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m KC Gifford IV and I’m the founder of Gifford Construction. I started working in the construction industry about 20 years ago, and in that time I’ve seen a lot changes. I’ve worked in a number of different areas of the industry and I knew I could do more to elevate the experience of the client. Contractors have a reputation of being hard to reach, uncommunicative, unwilling to adapt, and willing to let things slide. I knew I could make my company successful by taking the customer service aspect of this work as seriously as the construction. Gifford Construction is my vision for what I always wanted a out of a boutique construction firm.
We are a full-service design and construction studio, so we can help you with just about any aspect of a project and give you realistic expectations for how it should go. I wanted to ensure you could come to us for whatever you needed and didn’t need to find a bunch of different subcontractors for every part of the job. Home renovation isn’t anything like an HGTV show, it gets messy before it gets beautiful and will take longer than 30 minutes! I aim to be more hands-on than other contractors and bring a clients vision to life by juggling all the varied aspects of construction and renovation. My team brings a depth of knowledge to our projects that help us see ways to improve thing that a client might not have thought of.
Building houses for this long has taught me a lot about what works and what doesn’t, where to follow trends and when to stick with tradition. My company puts a premium on attention to detail because details are what make a house a home. Whether you’re building something from the ground up or remodeling something existing into something you’ve dreamed of, we want to make your home exactly what you envision.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course there have been struggles. As with the home renovation projects we work on, there are always unforeseen challenges to overcome. Running a small business is never easy but seeing the faces of people as they move into their new dream homes makes a lot of the struggle worth it. Through the years Gifford Construction has dealt with many of the things everyone else has; a volatile housing market, price hikes from COVID, delays in the supply chain that slow the completion of jobs. We strive to be honest and direct with our clients and they understand we are always doing our best to ensure their vision is executed. Like I said, I’ve been doing this a long time and I seen a lot. I usually have an idea of what will and wont work in a home. But I am always open to learning new things, adapting to new technology or materials, or just seeing someone do something in a way I never thought of that clearly works better. One of the great aspects of home construction is it is a collaborative job, so if I’m stumped I usually have people around me who see things differently and can make suggestions I hadn’t thought of yet. My team really helps me deal with the day-to-day challenges.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve worked to make sure Gifford Construction can provide just about everything from small renovation projects and trade referrals to full-scale new construction and multi-unit housing developments. With whatever kind of project we’re working on, client satisfaction is our ultimate goal. How many people have you met who’ve complained about their contractors versus the number of people who’ve raved about them? We strive to be the kind of construction firm you brag about using.
We will work with just about any budget, or at least give you a realistic idea of what the budget would be to bring your vision to life and what we can do if that’s out of your price range. There are a lot of ways to make something beautiful and personal without breaking the bank. Over the years, we’ve had clients who come to us knowing exactly what they want and people who knew they just wanted something new. We can help is all stages of the process.
We want people to know that you don’t need to hire a construction company only for a huge job. We’ve done powder room renovations, painted kitchens, built pool gazebos. We even have a roofing company, Blackbird Roofing, that just focuses on installing and repairing roofs, something Houstonians have to deal with a lot because of the weather. We’re not just here to build your home from the ground up, we’re here to help you update it if you need to, or help your neighbor or family update theirs once they see how good your new home looks. Ultimately the construction business is relationship-based because owning a home is one of the biggest commitments you can make. We want you to love your home and hopefully we can be a part of making it your own.
