Today we’d like to introduce you to Keisha Johnson.
Keisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always enjoyed creating things and doing arts and crafts. In 2016, one of my best friends got engaged, and I was recruited as the decorator for her bridal shower; after that, I decided to take my craft more serious, and Kustom Designs by Keisha was established. It started with the bridal shower and evolved into me doing baby showers, birthday parties, and graduation parties, and then I booked my first wedding in 2017. I still do events, but I added holiday decorating services in 2020, and that has become a very big focus for me today. I love all things holiday, and I keep my Christmas tree up year-round, and I change it for every holiday/season, so it has become a big thing in my house, and my daughter loves it. I love learning, so I am always doing research, taking classes, and networking so that I can perfect my craft.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Lol absolutely not! One of my biggest struggles was pricing; I shortchanged myself a lot because of course, I wanted to increase my clientele, but I also really enjoy what I do, so I loved being able to take these ideas and bring them to life. I would have people inquire about my services, and then I send over pricing information and would never hear from them again, and so I started questioning if maybe my prices were too high, and then I attended a business class and realized I was significantly undercharging. I had to shift my mindset, and once I did, I never looked back. One thing I have learned is people pay for what they want to pay for, and it is ok if they decide that hiring someone to plan an event or decorate their home for the holidays is not a priority, but that doesn’t make what I do any less meaningful, so I don’t take it personal.

Kustom Designs by Keisha is a full-service event planning and holiday decorating business that services the Houston and Atlanta area. I am passionate about creating an unforgettable experience for my clients. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I am just as big on all the other holidays as I am with Christmas and put 100% into creating exclusive looks for all my clients, and it shows in the final reveal. I am most proud of seeing the growth of my brand, starting off as an event planner, then adding holiday decorating and apparel. The future plan is to become a one-stop shop for all things holidays.
What do you think about luck?
Bad luck led me to all the right places in hindsight; it made me go harder with my business and step outside my comfort zone.
