Today we’d like to introduce you to Kellie Klinck.
Hi Kellie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My desire to help others and ease suffering began early in life. I was a sensitive child with a strong passion for defending the helpless and looking out for others. I studied psychology and earned my Master’s degree in Counseling after completing my undergraduate studies. I started my career as an advisor and career counselor for undergraduate students. Although I was unsure where to begin professionally, I knew how to listen and connect people with the resources they needed. I built a successful career in higher education, but felt my focus shifting more toward administration rather than counseling. Then, in 2017, my husband and I moved from Michigan to Houston. I used this as an opportunity to return to a counseling role. My personal experiences with the loss of loved ones, infertility struggles, adjusting to new places, and navigating life’s ups and downs inspired me to work directly with adults. I understand what it’s like to be “great on the outside, struggling on the inside.” Fortunately, in 2018, I had an opportunity to join a group practice specializing in high-functioning adults. I worked there for seven years before leaving to start my own practice, KK Therapy Group.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh boy, it has been anything but smooth! One of the biggest struggles was (and continues to be) saying no. My personality leans towards peacekeeping, so if I am not careful, I will prioritize others’ comfort over anything else. I see it in my clients, too – trying to take care of everything and everyone. As much as I hate to admit it, allowing others to feel discomfort is a prerequisite for self-fulfillment.
As you know, we’re big fans of KK Therapy Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At KK Therapy Group, we believe connection and healthy relationships are at the core of mental health. Helping people feel less anxious and alone, and more able to engage meaningfully with others is our “why.”
Many of our clients come to us because, on paper, life looks good. They’ve achieved a lot, especially in their careers, but something still feels off. Community, closeness, or belonging are missing. We use our time together to gently explore a client’s relationship history and the patterns that keep repeating. My background in attachment theory, IFS, trauma recovery, and interpersonal dynamics helps me support people in healing from past hurts. Experiences like abandonment, betrayal, growing up in highly critical homes, or internalized biases build walls between us and the connection we long for. And this isn’t just about romantic relationships. Our relational blueprint also shapes how we show up with friends, family, and colleagues. When connection doesn’t feel safe, it affects every part of our lives.
As a therapist, I work hard to bring humanness into the room. I hope clients experience compassion, skill, and authenticity when they are with me. Our relationship is a significant part of the healing process.
I currently offer individual therapy sessions and extended intensives, with plans to expand into group offerings soon. We’re based in the Houston area and also offer sessions in The Woodlands and virtual therapy throughout Texas.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in southeast Michigan, which I now appreciate so much as an entrepreneur. I witnessed grit and resiliency from an early age. My parents modeled compassion, hard work, and kindness – values I still hold dear. As a kid, I loved dancing, tagging along with my older sister, spending time with dogs, and creating things. In fact, these are some of my favorite things to do as an adult, too (ha ha!). I’ve always had a slightly anxious inner child, so I kept a bit of a distance from social settings. I had good friends I liked spending time with, but I also needed a lot of alone time. I will forever be an old soul at heart.
