Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsee Melton.
Hi Kelsee, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2021, while six months pregnant and navigating the uncertainty of COVID-19, I took a leap of faith and opened my own counseling practice. It was born out of a deep desire to do more for my community — to provide meaningful, accessible care without the limitations often found in larger systems. From the very beginning, my vision has been to create a space where families feel seen, supported, and empowered. I wanted to build a practice that families could trust — one that puts their needs first and helps them overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of growth and connection.
Through compassion, collaboration, and evidence-based care, I strive to help each client and family find balance, healing, and hope. My practice is more than just a counseling space — it’s a place built on understanding, resilience, and a genuine belief that change is always possible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t an easy time to start something new — the world felt unpredictable, and balancing my growing family with the demands of building a business from the ground up was both challenging and humbling. I faced countless obstacles, from learning the logistics of running a practice to finding creative ways to connect with clients in a time of isolation. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and fear — but also moments of deep purpose. Through it all, I stayed grounded in my belief that families deserved a safe, supportive space where they could find hope and healing, even in difficult times. That belief became the foundation of my practice and continues to guide the work I do today.
As you know, we’re big fans of Katy Child & Family Counseling Services, PLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Katy Child & Family Counseling Services was founded in 2021 in the heart of Old Katy, during a time when families needed support and connection more than ever. Opening our doors during one of the world’s most difficult times, came from a deep desire to do more for our community without limitations. Our mission has always been simple: to be a reliable, compassionate source of support for children, teens, adults, and families as they navigate life’s challenges. Our practice specializes in helping families overcome obstacles and restore balance through individual therapy, play therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), parenting support, and marriage/couples counseling. We take an integrative approach to care, creating personalized treatment plans that fit each client’s unique needs and goals.
What truly sets us apart is our family-first philosophy and commitment to genuine, compassionate care. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all model — we meet each client where they are and work collaboratively to help them move toward growth and healing. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive space where clients of all ages feel seen, valued, and understood.
Beyond therapy sessions, we strive to be a trusted community resource. We are deeply connected to the Katy area and want every family to know that help is accessible, personalized, and rooted in understanding.
We’re most proud that the Katy Child & Family Counseling Services brand stands for authenticity, integrity, and care. We’ve built a reputation for being approachable, reliable, and deeply invested in the well-being of the families we serve. Our clients know that when they walk through our doors, they’re entering a place that prioritizes people over numbers — where their story truly matters.
We want readers to know that Katy Child & Family Counseling Services is here for the whole family — whether you’re seeking support for your child through play therapy, healing from trauma with EMDR, working to strengthen your marriage, or looking for guidance as a parent. Our team is passionate about helping individuals and families find renewed hope, balance, and connection.
We believe that with the right support, families can overcome challenges and grow stronger together — and we’re honored to be part of that journey for so many in our community.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is balance and purpose. Being fully present both as a mom and as a practice owner. In my counseling practice, my goal is to create a space that genuinely supports families and meets them where they are, while at home, I want to model for my children what compassion, perseverance, and balance look like. Owning a private practice allows me to live out my passion for helping others while still prioritizing my family. It’s important to me that I lead by example — showing that you can nurture a business built on care and integrity, without losing sight of what’s truly important at home. Finding that balance isn’t always easy, but it’s what keeps me grounded and gives meaning to both roles.
I aim to be the kind of person my children and my clients can count on. As a mom, I want to raise compassionate, resilient kids. As a practice owner, I want to offer that same sense of care and consistency to the families I serve. Both roles remind me daily why I started this journey — to help others grow, heal, and thrive while staying true to my own values of family, balance, and community.
