Inspiring Conversations with Keyah Seedanee of Conquer & Thrive Counseling Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyah Seedanee.

Hi Keyah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a Licensed Professional Counselor began when I graduated from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2016. I worked as a therapist at non-profit organizations, including 2 adoption agencies, for several years. I found that my passion was working primarily with children and families. I opened my private practice, Conquer & Thrive Counseling Center in 2020 and have thoroughly enjoyed serving families, childrens and individuals since then.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has the private practice journey been a smooth one? Absolutely not! Yet, I am grateful for every obstacle I’ve overcome. With starting my private practice in 2020, covid was a huge challenge I faced. Adjusting to the new norms of masks, temperature checks and distance while providing therapy in-person was very challenging. During this time I was pregnant with my first child and had a high-risk pregnancy, therefore safety precautions were essential while conducting sessions in person. While telehealth was safer, learning how to provide the same comfort and safe space to clients, via video, was difficult.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Conquer & Thrive Counseling is a private practice that provides therapy to individuals, adolescents and family via video and in-person. I specialize in treating adolescents (as young as 5 years old) and adults in the following areas: ADHD, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorder, Depression, PTSD, Postpartum Depression, Fertility Issues, Women’s Issues, Racial Issues, Identify Issues, Life Transitions, Sexual Assault, Parenting Issues, Family Conflict, Relationship Issues, LGBTQ, POC, Anger Management, Self-esteem and more. I am known for meeting my clients where they are at and building rapport with them quickly. I believe what sets me apart from other therapists is my transparency. I don’t mind sharing with clients, when appropriate, and giving them insight to help them navigate their current struggles. I am most proud of my clients growth and the progress they make in therapy. I take pride in helping my clients conquer their obstacles and thrive in their healthy mindsets. I love what I do! My own personal experience with anxiety, depression, trauma, infertility issues and postpartum depression led me to therapy. I’m a therapist who also has a therapist and I’m very open about this with clients.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people who know me/my work might not know about me is that I was super against therapy growing up and during my first year of undergrad. My thought was, “I would never tell a stranger all my personal business!” I laugh about it now and I’m so thankful I didn’t keep that mindset!
