Today we’d like to introduce you to LaMetra (Missy) Brown.
Hi Missy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is LaMetra Brown, but I go by Missy, which is my childhood nickname. I was born in Waco Texas, but moved to Houston Texas after graduating from college as a Certified Surgical Technologist. I have worked in the operating room as a Certified Surgical Technologist for over 13 years in the specialty areas of Orthopedics, Neurology, General, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Plastics, Bariatrics, Podiatry, Cardiovascular, Pediatrics, Trauma, and Pain Management. Throughout my career, I’ve had a particular interest in mental and physical health, food, science, and poverty. I believe education, life coaching, and mentorship can help to eradicate generational poverty. My goal is to help young people gain the knowledge and informational resources they need to address issues like bullying, peer pressure, self-esteem, good, mental, and physical health, suicide, teen pregnancy, drug addiction, and domestic violence. I’m also the owner of Missy’s Heavenly Cupcakes which is located in Richmond, Texas that offers sweet, delicious, unique, baked confections that taste homemade. Our products include cupcakes, cake pops, brownies, cookies, pup treats, and custom gourmet gift baskets. We also serve a lot of baked goods that are vegan, dairy, free, gluten, free, as well as sugar-free. Being from Waco, my life was all about family, traditions, and southern hospitality. Baking delicious confections for my family and friends was a way to show love, spread joy, and show support. It’s funny because I work in the operating room during the day and bake sweet confections at night as a way to spread love and joy to my clients and to support my community. I have a heart for people, and I am deeply committed to giving them back to communities and local charities by hosting free cupcake events, and have provided both financial support and countless hours of community service. In my leisure time, I enjoy cooking, traveling, wine tasting, and spending time with friends and family.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road. Being a single parent of two beautiful daughters, Jalyn Mathis and Bre’Asia Brown, working a full-time job, at times a full and part-time job, and going to school was a lot to juggle as well as wanting to have my own business doing something that I loved which was baking and just being in a position to be able to give back, be a mentor, support and just be an inspiration to people. There were times I felt like giving up on my dreams and wondered how in the world am I suppose to get all of my accomplishments done with all of the obstacles, and this is when I know I had to stand firm on my faith and just really trust and believe God… believe his word. I made sure to stay prayed up and stay up under God’s word to get where I am now. I learned to quote scriptures for the many obstacles that I faced. I have no regrets about all of the hurdles I had to jump. I failed many times, cried a lot, asked why is this so hard ect…. But again I wouldn’t change anything. I know that it was God preparing me for something greater. My mom Kay Brown and my dad Dennis Brown both played a part in helping me to get through many days as well. I come from a family that’s very close-knit., and very supportive.

Missy’s Heavenly Cupcakes specializes in making fresh, gourmet cupcakes, daily as well as cookies, brownies, cake, pops, pup, treats, and gourmet custom gift baskets by request. We also specialize in all events and holiday-themed events. We also specialize in adult cupcakes for those bachelor parties, or those bachelorette parties, including alcohol-infused cupcakes. What also sets us apart from all other bakeries is that you can get all of the things listed above as well as getting dairy, free, gluten-free, sugar-free, and vegan all at one location. A lot of people that I’ve come in contact with have informed me that it’s hard to find a place where you can get everything, even for your pets all at one spot. My job as the owner is to provide fresh and quality products daily to every client making sure that my treats make them feel like they want to continue to come back for more and not only that to share it with their friends their families, their neighbors, their coworkers, etc. One of the greatest things is being able to give back to the community and donate part of the proceeds from events to different organizations we are big on supporting autism, cancer, domestic violence, mental health, awareness, and so many other organizations. The greatest reward is knowing that I was a part of helping one person or a group of people with whatever obstacles they may have been trying to conquer.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is to always think and stay positive, and to surround yourself with other people that are positive and can have a great influence on you. I’ve learned that you must stay prayed up and have faith in everything you do. I’ve learned that it’s OK to fall as long as you don’t stay down too long and learn something through each and every obstacle. I’ve learned that you have to be able to keep your feelings and emotions separated from making business decisions, and most of all remaining humble.
