Inspiring Conversations with Laura Siegelman-Moran of Royal Caliber Ranch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Siegelman-Moran.

Hi Laura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Royal Caliber Ranch was established since 2017.
We started as a small goat farm with the purpose to maintain regenerative food practices. The agenda was simple, create a system to be able to live and support our family off of the land. That meant breeding nice quality goats that were multifunctional for the ranch.
Through facing many challenges and expanding our goals of raising quality animals, the ranch has evolved into a multifaceted approach to homesteading.

We now breed and raise Jersey cattle along with Anglo Nubian and heritage breed Oberhalsi goats to not only provide our family with sustenance, but appeal to other farmers and ranchers with like minded goals. The Ranch started by breeding and milking goats on a small scale in our goat barn to now we are in the works of building a USDA facility for dairy products.
Our end goal besides guiding inexperienced homesteaders setting up their farms is to become licensed in the state of Texas to sell USDA grade A cow and goat milk products to the public.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. It’s actually been physically and emotionally exhausting but also so rewarding.

For one, when many dairies are selling out left and right, that should tell the public how hard it is to maintain a farm never-less a dairy that caters to the public, inspected frequently, and held to an incredibly high standard. It’s an expensive investment from procuring the right animals to be able to achieve our goals to buying equipment, maintaining the land, and balancing a work/personal life.

Some things have been tough are: finances, elements beyond our control, like tornados and hurricanes that have caused massive damages and set backs, taxes and regulations, finding a market beyond being a niche, and finding help that is reliable.

The endeavor is considered a “labor of love”. If you don’t have passion, this dream will never live.

With that said, as farmers and ranchers, we don’t have holidays, the cows don’t tell you when they want to have babies, and animals love to get sick on you left and right.

We’ve been impressed with Royal Caliber Ranch, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We raise quality animals that appeal to homesteaders with goal to provide dairy products and more form the Ranch to the public.
We specialize in breeding and raising Jersey cattle and heritage breeds goats for milk and meat.
I think what sets us apart is our experience in homesteading and also our customer service is top notch! We do everything to respond back to emails to answering calls and just being there for those reaching out since we know how important our customers are!
I am proud of the work we put into our animals and it shows. Customers are happy and we have a high customer satisfaction and return rate.
I want readers to know that if they have any questions or want to just get their feet wet about providing sustenance (or just want to know about farm animals/ranching) for their family off their land/garden/even apartment, they can reach out and we can brainstorm together.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
