Today we’d like to introduce you to Layn Chess.
Hi Layn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I found training as my passion in 2006 after overcoming a serious debilitating injury. Using resistance training and corrective movements, I was fascinated how the body would do anything you ask it to. I always run after what I’m passionate about, and decided to become a full-time trainer in 2009 at a local Heights gym. Unfortunately, during my first year as a professional, my grandfather got very ill and passed away in 2010. I realized the position of his health could have been avoided if he had the right information about how to take care of his body. That’s when my personal mission in life became to improve the quality of longevity for everyone that I meet.
I spent a couple years banging around the Heights area trying to open a gym, and in 2012 met my current business partner, Jose Madrigal. We partnered on a location on 19th street in the Heights, and we outgrew it in only 4 months! We learned a lot there, and we took what we learned and opened our 2nd location in EaDo (East Downtown) in May of 2018.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every business will look back and say it was a bumpy road, but what matters is where you end up. We’ve had many obstacles, from rebranding to surviving Covid, and I can confidently say that we have molded into an amazing company that’s positioned for growth. Our mission, our people, and our facilities are incredible, and that’s what sets us apart.
As you know, we’re big fans of Facet Seven Fitness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Facet Seven, we recognize six facets of fitness -FACETS is an acronym for Flexibility, Agility, Core, Endurance, Toning, and Strength. By practicing all six, you reach Facet Seven: Complete Fitness that lasts a Lifetime. Those who follow our programs move better, feel better, and learn to take control of their overall well-being.
Facet Seven is a neighborhood style gym with two locations, one in the Heights, and one in East Downtown. Both were designed and built to inspire our members and trainers by providing them with the equipment and space necessary to pursue limitless fitness opportunities. With a wide variety of cardio equipment, pin-select machines, and free weights, we have something for everyone.
Despite the large size of our facilities and the diversity of activities we offer, we pride ourselves on the sense of community and motivational atmosphere we have developed over the years. With membership caps in place to ensure consistent, quality experiences, we’re never over-crowded. You can be assured your gym time is always productive and stress free.
Whether you’re looking to take on that long ride in a cycle class, meet up with your personal trainer, or just do your own thing, you’ll feel right at home at Facet Seven.
