Inspiring Conversations with Lorissa Stone of Inspire Mental Wellness, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorissa Stone.

Hi Lorissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Childhood trauma and strict religion created a need to be loved and an intense desire to please in order to secure that love. Becoming a teen wife and mother further complicated and enhanced that dysfunction and pain. The belief that marriage would last forever offered security even if it was a painful kind of security. Twenty three years and four kids later, divorced and homeless with an empty resume, I enrolled in classes at Liberty University. My educational pursuit brought me healing and stability while equipping me to comfort and counsel others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Choosing counseling as a profession is the easy part. Participating in a complete excavation of one’s own life becomes the daunting task. Then comes practicum, internship and post graduate hours under supervision while working for low pay or no pay and most times at a cost. Trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy in life, relationships and responsibilities makes quitting a regular thought. Everyone tells you that counseling will not make one rich, but no one tells you that by the time a counselor becomes fully licensed they are often depleted and insecure. The good news is that this profession is about taking all of the pain, struggles, setbacks and disappointments and creating something richly beautiful in a single life that then touches many others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Inspire Mental Wellness was born from a desire to focus on the possibilities instead of the impossibilities. I am credentialed to work with any person from any walk of life with any struggle and it is an incredible honor to do so. I offer in person and virtual sessions to anyone in the great state of Texas. My specialty is the integration of Psychology and Theology in the pursuit of wellness. What sets me apart initially may be my thick Mississippi accent and my use of humor. If that isn’t a deal breaker then call for a free consult and let’s go from there.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
It is difficult to say where the industry is going over the next 5-10 years, but one thing is certain; help will be needed and the heart of a helper will be ready. AI may have entered the scene, but no one has ever requested a counselor without a heart.
