Today we’d like to introduce you to Madelyn Silva
Hi Madelyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After graduating high school in 2021, I was inspired to start hosting events. My father owned a piece of property, and we often brainstormed ways to put it to good use. A close friend, who frequently attended local events, encouraged me to organize one myself. I’d also always loved attending events. Sharing my vision with my parents, we decided to have my first event on November 14, 2021, marking the beginning of my passion for event planning.
I am dedicated to bringing the community together and creating vibrant marketplaces that showcase Houston’s incredible small businesses. I am grateful for the support from everyone involved, especially my sister, brother, father, mother and all my family, who have encouraged, supported, and help plan my next. I will say I have the best support system and team!
I’ve hosted numerous events, including night markets at Karbach Brewery and themed events such as día de Los muertos . These events have provided platforms for local vendors and unique experiences for attendees. 
Looking ahead, I am excited to continue organizing events that unite the community and support small businesses in Houston. Check out our page for new dates!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth. At one point, I lost the motivation to continue hosting events. What once brought me so much joy started to feel like a job, and it began to take a toll on me emotionally. I decided to step back and took a 7 month break from organizing events. During that time, i would go to women empowerment organization and I once met Daniela the organizers of @htx.eastsideproject. We talked for a while about bringing some fun to the east side. She then presented with an amazing opportunity to collaborate on an event she had in mind. Working with her reminded me why I started in the first place and rekindled my passion. Her encouragement played a big role in getting me back on track, and without her and my family I wouldn’t be hosting events today!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Yafavzpopup is an organization that brings small businesses together to create dynamic markets. We infuse our events with unique twists and a strong commitment to giving back to our community. What sets us apart is our party like atmosphere, thanks to our amazing DJs. We ensure our vendors have fun while earning, and our fests are designed for everyone to enjoy. We bring the vibes; you bring the fun. After all, we’re YAFAVZ for a reason!
Our events have featured over 65 businesses, live art, and even a scholarship price. 
Our dia de Los muertos event brought there community together with a community altar, which fostered a sense of communal remembrance and respect. We also had a mariachi group come out and made the event beautiful.
We’ve also hosted fashion shows, providing a platform for Houston-based clothing lines to showcase their creations. 
Our Fall Fest events at karbach brewery have been particularly memorable, offering free entry, free pumpkins, a variety of vendors, and a lively atmosphere for all attendees. 
We are grateful for the support of our community and look forward to continuing to bring people together through our unique and engaging events.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love it here, Houston is a vibrant city with lots to do. My favorite thing about the city is the enthusiasm Houstonians have for supporting local small businesses is truly remarkable. Now what I dislike is the weather!! I’ve had to reschedule an event 3 times because the weather. Us Houstonians know the weather is unpredictable.
